I've read that low dose Seroquel is more sedating than high dose.

Which low dose Seroquel is the most sedating?

25 mg
50 mg
75 mg
100 mg

Hi kaiba,

I wasn't aware that lower doses are more sedating - where did you read that? I'd be interested to know more..

^^ Low dose is most definitely more sedating. Having been on doses ranging from 25mg to 1000mg i'd know.

I personally find 100mg the most sedating. However, I will never condone the use of seroquel for sleep. Having developed tardive dyskinesia from usage of this drug it is my most hated medication.

Low doses are prescribed for treating insomnia. I was prescribed 25 mg of this (as well as, on a dif. occasion - 25 mg risperdal, as well as remeron). Small doses are super sedating. I remember feeling very scared after taking this, I felt 'trapped in my body' paralyzed almost...almost 'stuck in a khole' like. :| I didn't like the feeling. I do know people who DO enjoy this.

Jesus fucking christ. I just started seroquel xr 50mg last night, don't remember passing out, and am still fucked up sleepy. It's almost like the tired you get from taking just a little bit of xanax but multiplied and without a lot of the feel good qualities of it. Ya, this definitely was sedating. My doc gave me samples and said that I could start at 150mg because I had no serious side effects to the wellbutrin, but I decided to start at 50. If that's not a hypnotic I don't know-and I don't WANT to know-what is lmao.

You learn something new every day! We don't use it for insomnia here at all, but I've certainly seen people knocked out on high doses. The sedation wears off with time and tolerance though.

Before I knew exactly what it was, I used to take the 300mg IRs for comedowns off of x. The first time I took it I was pretty stupid and in the "I do lot's of drugs so I might as well take two" stage, so I took two and litterally passed out for 24 hours straight. Rode to Dallas in the back seat of my car with someone who was getting a 100 pack for the next rave at my house the next night (and Dallas is a 2.5-3 hour drive to get there when you're going to get stuff because you don't speed). I slept all the way through that and back and was made it to the house only to sleep until the next morning. After learning what the stuff was I stopped taking it and didn't take it until I started going through meth withdrawal and took them just to sleep though it for 3 days. That and diphenhydramine HCl. Horrible 3 days, but I'm getting the subject off track so I'll just stfu =D.

What Seroquel dose did the doctor prescribe to you? What Seroquel dose did you take most of the time.

If I remember correctly, I've read that high dose seroquel (greater than 200 mg acts on dopamine which causes tardive dyskinesia) together with long term use causes tardive dyskinesia.

Unlike low dose seroquel (25 to 100 mg) which only acts on histamine - antihistamine.

I have been on 25mg, 50mg, and 100mgs.... Mostly prescribed for anxiety and insomia, however, with all doses, and to quote Tripman, it turned me into a complete fucking zombie for days. I felt trapped in my own head and body. I felt like I was doing a bobblehead impression. That shit messed me up so bad I refused to take it anymore, and any Dr that tries to give it to me, I tell them not to bother wasting a script and the ink in their pen. I'm not sure how they think that medicine actually helps people unless they feel that you need to be strapped to a bed with no straps because that how I always felt.

I know that my reply probably hasn't really answered the original question, and I'm not sure how to answer a question that kind of didn't make much sense to me.......

For me EVERY dose is sedating. Unless your really asking which low does is best for say sleep, with out turning you into a zombified bobble head on a bed of jello all muddled together, then I would say the answer for me would be 25mg's.

hehe...ya...

I'm really really hesitant about taking this new dose they're trying me on. The XR 50 mg dose lasted too long...so they want me to take 100mg IR instead? O>o

I got to at least take it once because the Rx cost my parents 35 bucks. I feel obligated to take the whole Rx as money is so tight.

I don't want to highjack the original posters thread Doug, but if your uncomfortable with taking the 100mg IR, you have the benefit of breaking the pill up into smaller doses. So if you think 100 will be way to much and 50XR was too much then even 25 IR may be too much but you will have the benefit of it potentially not lasting nearly as long, remember that the difference between the XR and IR is just that with the IR you will get hit with all 100mg's right off the bat, the XR will still give you the full 100mg's it will just give you smaller doses through out a 12 hour(I think 12) period totalling the full 100mg's by the time the entire pill is metabolized. But make no bones about it seroquel no matter how you cut it for me is very sedating regardless of the dose and for me it's a full body and mind sedation. I don't like it at all. It's nothing like the calming sedation you would get from say Benzo's.

Yeah I was prescribed 400mg xr in the morning and 600mg IR at night.

However I still think it's heavily over prescribed as a sedative. It really shouldn't be used as such. My current Prof is writing a paper to try get it removed from the prescribed medicines list.

The doctor prescribe me 25 mg IR for sleep/insomnia. After a while, I wanted to try 100 mg IR for sleep/insomnia, the doctor agreed. After that, I sort of preferred to take 25 mg to 50 mg for sleep/insomnia - so I use a pill cutter to divide/cut the 100 mg IR tablets.

I've mention to the doctor that I've tried most meds for insomnia. Then he prescribed me 25 mg to 100 mg IR Seroquel.
