Serious question!!! Hair folicle drug test!!!

Hi! I have a pretty important question. I recently went into a drug rehab. Actually 6 months ago. Well, I got out 2 months ago, and a month after that I ended up relapsing, and I took 2 Xanax one day. Well, it's been a month since I took it. Now I have a possible job. The problem is they are doing a hair folicle drug test. I don't know how far this test goes back, and what all it tests for? I did have a script for the Xanax. Would they believe I still had xanax from 6 months ago?

What job gives a shit if you had Xanax?

You could always cut your hair short to 2 months worth of growth

I think hair testing goes back 90 days. A script from 6 months ago would be a legitimate excuse.

That's just it. I don't have my old bottles. Before I went to rehab I threw everything away. The xanax I took was actually from my brother. So if it shows up I was just gonna say I had some left from 6 months ago and I took my last few.

Despite the name, they don't actually test the follicle, they test the length of hair. It's like a time line, the ends of the strand show signs of the drug from when it is in the follicle. As the hair grows it pushes out and the drug profile is traced a long it's length. If you shaved all your body hair they would only detect drugs that are consumed from today. It can sometimes take up to 5 days before a drug is present in the hair but depending on the length of the strand it can trace back up to 6 months or so.

Well, you can learn something new even though you are an old dog! Thanks for the info OTW. I think I had read about the follicle being the part tested.

I have had people say to me that drug use can be traced back and reveal every drug you have taken for your lifetime. But I read on one testing site that hair would show drug use back for 90 days. You are saying it shows drugs back for 180 days? Could it be that the person testing has a set of parameters for different places that tell how far back to go?

They usually only cut a sample of hair. The alternative of yanking a tuft of hair out by the roots wouldn't be as popular. I'm sure if they thought they would get a better result they would do that though.

90 days is what they state on their official guidelines but I'd imagine most females would have hair long enough to test back many more months than that. The drug metabolites are embedded in the hair follicle so shampoo etc won't have any effect.
