1)If someone were to cook up some black tar, filter it and put it into a syringe... is it advisable to consume it right away or is it okay to store it for a few days?
2)Is there anything besides cotton that I could use as a filter?
3)Assuming I'm in a vein - would "quickly" pushing the plunger in hurt me in any kind of way? Usually I go slowly until it's all in there.. *looks perplexed*

1) You should consume it right away. One of the largest risks when injecting is bacterial contamination... bacteria in a shot can lodge all sorts of places (eg the heart) and cause lots of problems (eg death). You want to uncap the syringe, cook the shot, and inject within a relatively short period of time to keep everything as sterile as possible. Read Phreex's injection guide if you have not yet done so, it contains good advice.
2) Sterile cotton is the best thing I know of that is easily available. If you can get your hands on actual filters, do so. Bio and chem labs often have very fine (10micron) filters designed to work with syringes; these will block many adulterants and bacteria due to their tiny size.
3) Injecting slowly has benefits -- easier on your veins, and it gives you more of a chance to stop if something goes wrong -- you go out of the vein, the shot feels bad, or the dope seems too strong.

Such a grab-bag of answers... oh my..
1) Cook yer dope then shoot-it, it's best not to wait as others have said, solids can materialize and bacteria can devlope ..
2) Just use cotton .. forget shit like cigarette filters or some of the more-crazy stuff like high-lighter color cottons..
3) No, it's better to inject slower - if you're not positive that you're still in the vein, pull out a little on the plunger and blood should flush back into the syringe.. if you inject too fast you risk pushing yourself out of the vein or even damaging the vein..
