I use and can basically say I've been addicted to oxycodone and hydrocodone. When I dose these drugs I usually wont take a shit until like 2-3 days after the time I got high and I've been using for years now. It's actually quite frustrating! I was wondering what the heroin/hardcore opiate users bowel movements are like?

Some added fibre will help a lot in my expereince, and yeah; sometimes it does have to be 'Hand balled' :o

does anyone know by what mechanism opiates cause constipation? is it by relaxing the walls of the intestines?

in terms of ameliorating constipation: A LOT of fruits/vegetables/fiber (not too much psyllium fiber as that stuff expands and you don't want a bunch of it backed up inside you), stool softeners (not laxatives though), coffee/cigarettes/any other stimulants, preferably at the same time, magnesium in reasonable doses.....it also helps to be following these rules before (ie, the morning of or maybe the evening before) and during opiate use, not just once you realize you haven't shit for three days

Opiates slow the central nervous system and decrease peristalsis in the intestines (decrease smooth muscle activity that pushes shit along)

An instant cure for opaite constipation is a hit of crack or a shot of coke. Way better than laxatives.

Oh god on my fentanyl binges I would try not to smoke any just so i could shit. So while i was actually shitting, I would get cooked up, it actually would stop me from shitting in the middle of shitting. And let me tell you, it feels like your shitting fucking bricks on that stuff.

Its fucking painful taking a shit when you have a habbit!

I haven't got an ope habit, thankfully; but even 'frequent' recreational use can be very painful at times!

i go at least once a day and even when i was doing like a G of H a day i went once a day ......but yea i second that opinion on the coke ...really gets the shit moving :-/ haha

Actually, opiates increase the tonus of smooth muscle in the intestines. But it also decrease the peristaltic movements and thats what causes constipation. In addition, it also increases the tonus of sphincters, which certainly augments the constipation and leads to painful evacuations (maybe nitrites would help with that?).

i USUALLY dont have much of a problem.. but one time after taking a break from oxy and doing it again for a while.. one particular shit felt like giving birth. seriously.

I go once or twice a day(hydrocodone usage around 40-60mg a day). I asked myself this today while working...damn am I supposed to go this often...

Ugh. Been there.

Good thread. I was thinking about starting a post about this. =D

Currently, I have found a couple things useful. It's like a stinkin war against the crap sometimes....lol

1. EVERY DAY, try to crap out whatever little bit I can. Better to push out BBs than a baby. The more little ones I can get out, the fewer to get compacted and backed up.

2. Stool Softeners. Docusate Sodium 100mg. OTC. Life is so much easier since I've discovered these. 5 daily, whether I think I need them or not. They take a couple of DAYS to work, so you have to remember.

3. Bite the bullet and get used to digging them out manually.

4. Flush often, and know where your toilet shut off valve is, it's a right cat and mouse game keeping the damn thing from overflowing.

Do you accumulate more toxins if you are constipated over long periods of time?

Disease starts in the intestines. Think if your mouth was full of shit for a whole week--you would get an infection, no doubt. Bowel movements are basically disposing of waste, bacteria, extra toxins in the body. If left in too long the decaying matter and toxins will start to seep through the lining of the intestines and into your blood causing all kinds of problems, maybe not right away, but eventually it can lead to colon cancer and other degenerative diseases. Actually the average adult carries up to 7 lbs of impaction in the intestines. That is years of waste and you can imagine it don't look too good when it comes out, if you are able to get it out, believe me on this. Your body has all kinds of checks and balances, if something is out of balance for too long you best believe you will get checked later on in life.

That is why you see people hobbling around later in life with arthritis, heart problems, diabetes, cholesterol problems, bad eyes, broken hips, swollen ankles, dementia. They got to put all this toxic medications into their body just to stay alive one more day. All that starts when you are young and you neglect your body. So when your body starts to slow down because your cells are starving and living in their own decay you get these degenerative diseases. Yes, the body has the potential to be a self healing, self cleaning vessel, but after years and years of abuse your body ain't gonna do shit for you-- its like man I wanna get the fuck outta here, gimme some cancer so I don't got to deal with this suffering shit no more.

I don't know about you, but that shit scares the fuck out of me. If it means I gotta eat some fruits and vegetables and look for alternative routes of living, so be it, maybe I got a chance to still be able to walk and think and breathe on my own when that sky train comes for me.

so yea to answer your question, it IS bad if you are backed up for too long for too many years, it's life threateningly bad.

I thought about this when the thought of plugging crossed my mind. Since you have to shit before you can plug (opiates) and once you've done that it'll be hard to shit, plugging must be really really complicated with timing just right.... plugging opiates is that snake in a circle eating its own tail
