Separatory funnel

I am getting ready to do an extraction and was wondering what size funnel I should buy? 250, 500, or 1000ml? I will be extracting from 450ish g of powdered mhrb thanks in advance!
 
Either 500 or 1000 ml is good, with 500 mls you will have to do more batches but it might be a bit less messy or more comfortable. (As a rule of thumb in chemistry, scaling up can make the process a bit less controlled)... I would go with the 1000 ml though, you can get a lot more work done and I don't think the scaling up concerns apply that much yet.

IIRC, I have 3 types one of which is 1000 ml or even bigger but the tap is utter shit. The other 2 are 500 ml, one of which I highly prefer over the other. In the past I have wished for a bigger and proper one and I have not at all quickly made my way through a kg using the 500 ml funnel.
 
I would definately go for a 1000mL separatory funnel. I started with a 500mL, but switched to a 1000mL soon after :)
 
Tek Help for MHRB

I am gathering my supplies and ready to order a separatory funnel, what size should I order? They range from 50ml to 2000ml also is it preferable to use naphtha or hepthane? I also read somewhere about using Coleman fuel white gas? What would that replace is it beneficial? Sorry for all the noob questions but I don't want to waste my powder. TIA
 
Haven't you started one thread about separatory funnel? You should definatly go for 1000mL..

I use heptane as nonpolar solvent, it works perfect. You can PM me if you have any questions regarding STB extraction on MHRB :)
 
Btw you are going to want to separate the root bark from the mix before you put it in the funnel. Like the chunks of root bark. They will clog the funnel. Like use a French press or strainer. Unless the root bark is fully completely powdered. Usually the stem (I don't know what its called) on the funnel is tiny and even a thick glob of completely powdered root bark will clog it.

Also I went for the 1000 ml funnel because it wasn't very much more expensive for double the volume.
 
at least 1 L, if not 2... you will want room to shake it around too.

bigger is better when it comes to sep funnels.
