Sensodyne and clandestine labs

LOLOL.... there has to be something we're missing :p

but yeah, being that it is expensive.... and difficult to stop using once you start... I can't imagine there'd be too many other incentives??

what about the relationship between potassium chloride - chloroform?

^ Has to be better sources out there for potassium chloride as well... this thread makes my head spin and is distracting me from the awesomeness of 'Siberian Khatru'.

Potassium Chloride is sold in many supermarkets as a non sodium salt (or low sodium salt when mixed with Sodium Chloride (table salt)). Cheap as anything.

Iv wondered why KCl is used in Euthanasia to stop the heart and is also sold as a health food.

What relationship is that hyroller?

I'm interested in hearing how widespread the practice of stealing is. Must be significant if the product is being reformulated.

For many years our local IGA has placed that product behind the counters apparently because its high on the stolen lists.

I think the idea that its for drug manufacture is probably an urban myth.

I don't remember it being stolen from when I worked at a supermarket, but then again it was a very busy and large supermarket so we had a separate department that worked on loss prevention and we at the front end never really dealt with it, other then reporting things we saw.

This is very curious, hopefully someone comes up with a reason why it's being stolen so much!

Sensodyne is prob the most expensive toothpaste and its one of the things every person needs to use on a daily basis a few times. Its not rocket science to put 1 and 2 together. It could be that one particular person goes to that supermarket to steal this. If anyone else works at a supermarket please tell us if this toothpaste is in the top 3 most stolen items.

Dont know if its top 3 but I can safely say its a high theft item. Fairly common for the toothpaste to be filled at night time and by the next night its all vanished with no sales. I just always assumed people might sell it to other shops or possibly even friends like another Bler has already said.

There is one chemical listed in the post by Doctor Robert that has possible association with a reduction method, but I have yet to work out if/how it could be used. Anyway, this is probably a dead end as it's widely available elsewhere.

It's usually in relatively small amounts. Incidentally, in a higher concentrations, typically ~600mg/tablet, as frequently co-administered with some diuretics, it is scheduled and requires prescription.

lol - I don't know, I was just enquiring whether there was one??
If I knew about it, I'd be able to tell you all about it.... of course :p

this is funny. this thread will probably be revived in 18 months' time with the actual correct answer.

Hey hyroller, you could always know something I don't, as you often do :)

From a bit more searching, it may be that the Polyethylene glycol (PEG 8) is used in the extraction of pseudoephedrine

would there be any real value in that??

Surely getting that stuff in quantity from a compounding pharmacy (much like propylene glycol for preparing injections of benzodiazepines is available) would be cheaper and of higher quality to do such a thing.

most glycol compounds (lets exclude 1,4-butylene glycol) are pretty uncontrolled substances.

its small and expensive. therefore its easy to steal then sell to smaller shops at a lower price than what they would pay a distributor for, and then you have $ to buy drugs.

used to happen with razor blades, now the blades are behind the counter. i guess the target of this old scam has just changed to toothpaste.

Either there is something of value in the toothpaste for making drugs that we can't figure out

or

You manager knows nothing about drugs and will thus blame the stealing on them.

.....

If I were them id be stealing the omo cloths wash:)

maybe a lot of the old folk need it, can't afford it on the pension, and decide to steal it on a weekly basis..for drugs

My dad told me the other day that when he was shopping he picked up a box of Sensodyne and it had a tube of Colgate in it. Obviously someone had swapped boxes so they could get the Sonsodyne cheaper! It really is markedly more expensive than other toothpastes, I wouldn't pay that much for a tube.
