Egg on my face- I've gone back and edited the posts I've put up to comply with the new format :)

I find it encouraging that Webb is still pushing for and standing behind this- I remember posting the article on DiTM when he first tried to propose this plan. I'm hoping the obstructionism from the right leads to a toughening up and lack of compromise when it comes to socially progressive and pro-labor legislation the next time the Democrats have the Congress (and often the two issues coincide around War On Drugs policies- such as opposing mandatory drug-testing for Medicaid recipients, expanding state/Federal Methadone and Buprenorphine programs means more good jobs for health care workers, etc).

Mandatory Minimum Sentances, no-knock warrants, etc are some of the ugly realities such a commission would investigate. The right-wing Cato Institute opposes such practices as well- they promoted a book detailing the history of the Nixon Administration's drastic increase in police powers and the human cost of these policies over the last several decades.
