i just came across this relatively old article on newscientist.com.

Semen makes you happy. That's the remarkable conclusion of a study comparing women whose partners wear condoms with those whose partners don't.

The study, which is bound to provoke controversy, showed that the women who were directly exposed to semen were less depressed. The researchers think this is because mood-altering hormones in semen are absorbed through the vagina. They say they have ruled out other explanations.

SNAP - what i was gonna say.... think of the example of the relationship between height and income - taller people earn more income than shorter people. and why? because on average men are taller than women. and on average men earn more than women....

i'd like to know how they did this - show me the multivariate factoring baby. my hypothesis would be that women who don't use condoms as a form of contraception are more likely to be in a (monogomous) relationship with a guy. they are more likely to be getting regular sex. they are less likely to be depressed or alternatively may report being happier. but that doesn't make for titillating and controversial reading that way, does it?

I saw this study a while back. Now, between this and the 'looking at breasts lowers mens blood pressure' study I am starting to get a little bit suspicious about just who is sponsoring this research. Hustler maybe?:)
