Hey guys, I've been selling plasma for the past couple of months. I was just wondering if anyone has had any bad reactions when getting high after giving plasma? I usually feel pretty drained after the apheresis, but usually goes away after I eat.

I gave plasma earlier today, and just enjoyed some Morphine via IV, I feel fine. Just curious if I'm just not feeling the "danger".

Anyone else sell plasma?

I used to do it. There was no problem with me using before or after donating plasma. I was a tweaker, pill head, smoker, and a drunk. You actually get a better buzz if you save your drugs for after you donate the plasma. I also wanted to be respectful so I never went into the place fucked up. Also I was always worried they would take the drugs out of my system with my plasma lol so I just took Xanax and smoked weed before I went, for the most part that is. I did some roxies before I donated one time and the process was a lot more pleasant. Most of the time I was donating while dope sick or I hadn't smoked weed in a day or two or something which always makes the process so much more painful. Just remember that shit takes time and you really are helping people. My little brother actually has received plasma before for medical reasons.

For those of you concerned the plasma is filtered. Meaning it doesn't matter what drugs you have in your system. However please do not donate if you have hepatitis or something because that is actually dangerous to people (mainly the technicians and fellow patients).

They don't drug test prior to accepting your plasma? Or is there no risk for contamination in plasma, only in actual blood donations?

I have not donated high, and don't plan on it. I would imagine it would be awful... The sodium citrate (i think it is) they give to you makes me feel nauseous and puts a really bad taste in my mouth.

@Rtrain they do not drug test that I'm aware of. I think they took blood samples though, but they didn't say if it was for drug testing. Whenever I go they always check the crooks of your elbows and your elbows themselves for bruising. If its bruised you can't donate that day.
Also about 2 weeks ago I was a "random" (imagine that) selection for a full body inspection. They claimed it was to see if I had any tattoos that I didn't tell them about, but who knows. Also I have had nasal exams where they look in my nose.

I'm sure these are all checking for signs of a drug addict. And if you go inactive for a month you must wait another 6 months before you can give again.
I can't find any solid evidence for giving plasma to be bad for you. I do it two times a week. I don't have a job, its the only way I pay my rent right now. I can't imagine it would be good for you to give all your fluids up. I keep a steady weight and they always tell me my protein levels before I donate, which has been steady as well.

One time I sold plasma all day in some shitty east TN town, and I had not eaten much all day. Well I used the cash to buy 4 perc 10s. Long story short I got really tingly and hot while puking my guts out wasting my money in the process. The moral of the story is giving plasma makes you feel like shit, you have to hang with unsavory characters that smell, and the pay is shit.

Yea seriously weekend addiction, if addicts werent allowed to donate im sure the price of plasma would skyrocket because thered be no one else to do it...

I don't know of anywhere that they drug test prior to taking donations of blood or blood products such as plasma. I don't believe that any of the drugs would be transferred to the recipient of the blood or plasma (if it could be transferred and harm the patient receiving the blood/plasma then I am pretty sure they would not just go off the word of some hick off the street that they had not been using anything, they would definitely test it). They do test for HIV and Hepatitis and such because that can be contagious to the patient. The only reason you are disqualified from donating if you admit to using drugs/needles is because by using drugs especially via needle/IV then it puts you in a higher risk category for being HIV positive or having been exposed to Hepatitis.

I do know that certain meds that affect blood clotting can sometimes cause you to be deferred. Things like ASA (aspirin) and Vitamin K, coumadin, are some such drugs. (ASA and coumadin can cause issues with the clotting factors and Vit K is an antidote to these drugs..it causes blood to clot more readily).

I used to donate pretty regularly several years ago and I personally never had any issues with giving plasma and using any drugs afterwards.

Yeah I've donated a bunch of times for cash. Never been drug tested, just the standard HIV, Hep c shit. Good way to earn some extra money and helps people who need it.

Win win.

They take almost anyone for blood donating. It's the sperm clinics that are super strict with who they allow to do it.

LOL.,yeah I could see why. Its one thing to take blood and plasma from just anyone and so many people need it..Im sure they dont care what type of person it comes from...its another thing when you think about having a bunch of little dumbasses running around as a result.

Haha. Exactly. There are just some people out there (a lot of people actually) who should never reproduce. Hah.

FWIW I could care less if you go donate stoned off your ass...It's the IV use that is disturbing and wrong IMHO.

There is such a great need..it really does benefit those besides the donors who are getting a little extra cash..though that is a good thing too. There have been times back when I donated that that money actually bought my gas for the week, or bought milk for my kids for the week. Sometimes when you are really broke and struggling that extra 25 to 40 dollars right then to hold you off til payday is what keeps you from totally going under. It really is a good thing to do also because there are often such shortages and you really can save someones life.

To rustedHalo, I agree, I dont care, if I need it then the person who donates can be as stoned as they like when they donate....as long as it is not going to harm me. As for the IV use, it is a little scary, but they screen it well before they use it. I dont think there has been a case of HIV etc transferred to someone via a transfusion in a long, long time (15 years maybe? Maybe more?). Is this what you mean that IV use is disturbing?
