Seizure from cocaine.

Hi guys,

I joined here because I'm looking for some advice.

I'm not sure if I'm posting this in the right section, so I apologise if not.

I am 21 year old and female, from the U.K. I have been using cocaine socially for around a year. On Friday night me and my friend decided we would get some cocaine, this 'binge' pretty much went on all night, from say 11pm till around 7am. I had quite a good time, I definitely did not feel ill or sick from taking it, I also didn't take more than I would normally take, so I didn't go over board or anything.

Around 11 am that morning I had a seizure, I have never had one of these before. I remember feeling very weird and calling out to my housemate and then I don't remember anything at all. When I came around I had blood coming out of my mouth where I had bitten my tongue and it was all over the floor and there was 2 paramedics around me, I then got taken to hospital. They were fine at the hospital and once I felt more with it they let me go home.

I am obviously really scared and have been experiencing a lot of anxiety since Saturday, so much so that I couldn't even leave my bed today.

I'm really worried I am going to drop down dead or go insane or something.

I'm confused about what happened as I would have thought that I would have had the seizure straight or closer to the time after taking the cocaine not 4 hours later.

I'm just really worried, if anyone could offer me some advice then I would be grateful.

Thanks

Sarah.

That must have been very frightening for you Sarah. Let me ask you, have you been using any other drugs, medications or herbal supplements recently? What about alcohol and are you in general good health? Even if the cocaine was cut with something, there's no way of telling what is was but you felt alright while using it. Your friend used it as well so I'm wondering if there is an underlying condition perhaps that caused this. Have you or immediate family members ever had seizures before?

Thank you for the reply.

I haven't been using any other drugs but I was drinking alcohol whilst taking the coke, I had 3 glasses of wine. That was a lot earlier in the night though and it seemed to have no bad affects at the time.

Also nobody in my family has had seizures that I'm aware of, I'm pretty much baffled by it.

But thank you for the reply!

Hey Sarah.. if you want maybe share how much you used and when the last dose was in relation to the seizure. Sorry this happened to you.

Hey thanks, I had 1g to myself, spaced over like 7 hours........

I think I took my last line at about 10 to 7 (can't remember the exact time) and the seizure happened around 11am.

Do you have any family history of seizure realted illness? I just ask cause this dose is really small. so the fact that you have experienced this may indicate a underlying aspect that may need to be explored. Given this happened I would refrain from stimulant use until you are able to figure out what went down. I know it sucks, but you need to find out what going on before you continue useing stimulants. <3

Thank you for the advice, I have just spoke to my Mum and she told me my great Grandma had epilepsy (very bad epilepsy infact) but I would have thought that if I had it or something along those lines I would have known by now.

But yeah I will certainly refrain from taking it until I find out what's going on :).

It might have skipped a generation or two but definitely see your GP and discuss. It may not even be related to drugs at all and since you're predisposed to epilepsy it's a good idea to have this checked further. Don't let this go because this could be a potentially serious health matter.
