Seeking advice from experienced users of ondansetron (zofran) for psychedelic nausea

Hey all, I'm going to be getting some ondansetron soon (brand name zofran) and I have a couple questions for anyone who has a lot of successful experience with using it to prevent psychedelic nausea under their belt.

1) What dose should I take? I was thinking 8mg, but I really haven't read anything conclusive about the dose.

2) When should I dose the ondansetron to successfully prevent come up nausea? I'm planning on testing the waters with DOM, so the come up is around 3-4 hours. Should I take the ondansetron before dosing, at the time of dosing, or sometime after? If before or after, how many minutes?

Appreciate any answers, long time tripper but haven't been able to trip much as of late because of how bad the nausea has gotten for me.

I've used ondansetron with aMT, mescaline, dextromethorphan, and long, windy drives along the CA coast. I can say for sure that aMT is particularly nauseating for me, and ondansetron did wonders for the nausea. I've never tried mescaline hcl without ondansetron, but I also haven't experienced even a hint of nausea with the combo. Overall, ondansetron is an excellent anti-emetic (good efficacy, few side effects). The only side effect I've noticed is some mild constipation at higher doses (16 mg in a day).

1) I usually take 8 mg, though 4 mg may suffice.

2) Take the ondansetron 30 minutes or so before the psychedelic...just keep in mind that the half life is around 6 hours, so you may need to redose if you take a long acting psychedelic. IIRC, I've prophylactically redosed with aMT, taking a second dose about 6 hours in, but haven't needed to with other psychedelics. I never found DOM nauseating, but my sense is that the nausea with most psychedelics is heaviest at the beginning, so one dose may be sufficient.

i used it twice in preventing aMT nausea in my first trips at a normal dose (im quite sensitive to the nausea this chem provides, or was as it later turned out). for me, 4mg was enough, and i only took it prophylactically about 30mins before ingesting the aMT. it worked like a charm, with no side effect that i can remember.

however, my supply was limited and i had none after that. luckly i didnt need it, but if ever i were to name a preffered anti emetic, this one would be it

Never tried this but essence of lemon oil is excellent at clearing up nausea - even works for oral DMT.

Thanks a bunch for the response. Given DOM's longer-than-normal come up, would you still suggest taking it 30 minutes before dosing? Or would it be more sensible to take it at the same time?

I haven't tried DOM yet, but I am very suggestible to psych nausea from almost any chem, and I want to make sure my first experience with this gem isn't marred in anyway. I plan on using it for 2c-e next.

I was in the exact same situation a few years ago dude. I didn't want to trip anymore because of the horrendous nausea I would suffer every time. But I was recommended ondansetron by someone on here, and have been using it ever since. It works very effectively but occasionally I'll still get a little bit nauseous towards the end of the trip (usually if I haven't eaten).

I usually take the ondansetron at the same time as I take the psychedelic. That usually covers me. I initially only took 4mg, but then during longer trips e.g. LSD, I would usually need to take another 4mg towards the end of the trip. Now I take 8mg, and that usually sees me through the whole trip. For shorter trips e.g. mushrooms, 4mg is usually enough, but 8mg can't hurt

Ondansetron is, as far as I've read, quite safe in terms of side effects and contraindications, so you could probably even take 16mg if you needed to. But I think you'll (hopefully) find that you won't need more than 8mg for the desired effect.

However, since this is your first time using ondansetron, I would probably suggest that you try 4mg first, just to see if THAT is enough for you. If so, great! If not, take more.

I think I'll try 4mg for DOM, 8mg for 2c-e since that one is so heinous in particular lol. And I doubt I'd need to readminister in the middle of the trip since my nausea is only transient and present during the come up.

Yep. Works great for mescaline nausea as well, which always got to me worse than pharmahuasca nausea did. Its not just some mumbo-jumbo pseudoscience either. Theres a specific terpene, beta-pinene in lemon oil (among other plants as well) that has the same mechanism of action that ondanserton does. Ginger has a chemical that does this too. 5-ht3 antagonism. Just don't overdo it or the super lemony flavor/burps can elicit a gut churning uncomfortableness that kind of defeats the purpose. 5 drops max ime.

I'd love to try ondanserton to compare its efficacy with leo though.

I doubt it matters too much, but I'd suggest taking it 15-30 min before the psychedelic so it has time to saturate your 5-HT3 receptors before the offending psychedelic has a chance.

I can't see 4mg of DOM causing much nausea. It's a very gentle experience.

I wouldn't worry to much, if worse comes to worse like stated you could simply ingest more. If you've got the MDing tablets they'll come on quickly and through reading I found its water soluble and I believe there was even medical info on the efficacy of nasally administered Ondan. From what I remember the results weren't excessively preferable but they were well enough and the time I tried it in a jiff it seemed to work though who knows how much the mind played in that one. 12mgs of Ondan has always been enough to tackle even the most notorious nausea for me when taken all at once at the right time, heck even with bad timing it works like magic pretty much.

Think I've taken 6mg of DOM in the past with no noticeable nausea. Very like mescaline.

Better safe than sorry eh? I personally wouldn't chance it with DOM. Anything with a longer come up is a lot less grand to be nauseated for in my experience more miserable for a longer time. Lose lose!
