Seeing Cockroaches on meth but Not having a delusional infestation

Hey everyone. This is my first official thread post. Well, I've been on a short meth binge and I've been eating, sleeping, showering, and pretty much taking care of myself. The only problem is that I keep hallucinating cockroaches in my home and it causes me to be extremely paranoid thinking that bugs are crawling ON me. I don't think bugs are under my skin or that I'm infested internally by insects. I just keep getting the sensation that things are crawling on me, and especially with my hair.

I just wanted to get some feedback and see if anyone else has dealt with this and get some tips on how to cope or fix that problem. I know what delusional parasotis or however you spell it is and that's not my issue at all. I think things are on my body, not under my skin.

Anyway, thank you everybody for taking the time to read this. Your help is appreciated!

I've been experiencing the same. I've been on and off using meth (this relapse) since November. I'm feeling and seeing bugs too.

I just got to remind myself it's paranoia. I seem to pick up shadows in the corner of my eye or feel bugs running up my legs at that point I just asure myself it's paranoia, give it a few minutes, then calmly check or brush my leg.

Sleeps real important too, make sure you get some shut eye. I find its no where near as intense after a good nights sleep.

Little advice, lf that was a once off binge leave it there. The daily cycle of smoking meth is lonely and shit.

I would say this is a pretty common side effect from a few day binge on stims - I used to get it a lot and was normally an indicator that I needed sleep.

The word is formication - Formication is the medical term for a sensation that exactly resembles that of small insects crawling on (or under) the skin. It is one specific form of a set of sensations known as paresthesias, which also include the more common prickling, tingling sensation known as "pins and needles".

It can be pretty uncomfortable but don't scratch or pick or scrub etc

Just copied this paragraph explaining what causes it -

Heavy stimulant use causes a rise in body temperature and increased blood flow to the skin to counteract it.
The produced sweat contains an enzyme that increases blood flow to the skin even more.
When the sweat evaporates, it removes the protective sebaceous oil which coats the skin.
The combined effects of dehydration, sweating and removal of the sebaceous oil on the skin create a sensation on the nerve endings on the skin and cause the addict feelings of something irritating or "crawling" on or under (Delusional Parasitosis) the skin.

Good to know I'm not alone. The first time I did meth I was smoking it heavily every day for months until I finally went to rehab, then I had stopped for a few years and just recently I've started dabbling in it again. I've been doing a few 3 day binges in the last 3 months and I've just been ingesting it. I actually don't do much at all in one day. Never noticed the bug problem when I was smoking it, only now that I'm ingesting it.

I never really have a problem getting some sleep each night and I'm always eating so I don't look or feel like crap. The bug thing only happens at night around the same time I start window peeking obsessively. I think it's because I dose in the morning so I start coming down at night. Yeah, I keep reminding myself that too. I always either blame paranoia for the bugs or blame myself for not going to the eye doctor lol. I just wish I could stop acting like a nutjob creeper at night.

Ah. I'm not completely crazy. Finally a scientific explanation for my problem. Yup that definition sounds about right and makes sense. I do tend to sweat a lot more at night for some reason. Thanks for the description. That helps quite a bit.

I feel your pain. The second detox I went to in florida I was coming off a huge amount of benzos and heroin. On the third day I kept seeing cockroaches all over my room and I would routinely get out of bed and shake out my sheets. No matter what I did I kept seeing them scurry around out of the corner of my eyes. Then on the third day I felt like they were under my skin.

It is terrifying to say the least. I would take a break from the meth and just clean your house thoroughly.

I prescribe 500mg diphenhydramine. The imaginary spiders will chase away your imaginary cockroaches and bugs.

I also prescribe nightshade tea, so that you can smoke an imagary cigarette while watching the show.

Lastly, 100mg of diazepam so none of this upsets you.

OTOH, you could stop binging on methamphetamine. YMMV.

Anyone who says paranoia has not experienced enough to comment. Anyone who knows will be nodding right now. Ask yourself when did the bugs start I know I've felt them before I had ever touched a pip. If you were nodding you need to be sure in your self they are real I mean there are plenty of folks that have gone loony toons. First go get some lice treatment or scabbies treatment rub it on when you crawling and see if anything comes out of your skin. You don't need a mag glass you'll see them. If you broke dilute some bleach or even spray some det fly spray. If you see something identify it? Believe me your going to have to do this mostly on your own. I am still getting rid of the blighters but I have three different types I have seen. Demodox mites long caterpillar looking but bigger then reported on the net. Nymph looking things and the jumping Beatles which you rarely see but do burrow. If you message me and I believe your story I'll show you my microscope pics. I'm on here to share and learn I mean freaking out is a complete waste of time and will get you locked up most likely. They are insects their life cycle is incredibly short we must break the cycle that's it done. I'm pretty sure that there is a virus which supports the numbers or the cycle in some way. Let's talk if your real and work together?
