Sedapa -- Butalbital + Acetaminophen

I have an erupted wisdom tooth, and the doctor TRIED to prescribe Tramadol -- told her NO, please give me something else. So they came back with Sedapap. I haven't filled the script yet -- wanted to see if it's even worth filling -- or should I just keep my money. Anyone used "sedapap"? If so, is it worth taking for pain, or maybe a buzz?

I searched these forums for sedapap, but didn't find much. Forgive the newb?

It contains Butalbital and Acetaminophen.

Butalbital is a barbiturate.

Certainly I would rather it than tramadol.

I'd prefer the tramadol. Butalbital isn't that recreational but would definitely help with the pain.

Why would they suggest Sedapap? I question the effectiveness of this for your wisdom tooth pain. I'd write #15 Hydrocodone 7.5mg. PRN if you have no history of opiate abuse.

The 60mg codeine + Butalbital Fioricet capsules are the best. Try to get your hands on those if ya' can, even with my high opioid tolerance I found them enjoyable

Butalbital is an intermediate-acting barbiturate and one of the few barbs still in common use...

IMO its better than tramadol recreationally, but maybe not analgesic-wise. Your mileage may vary. I had a prescription for butalbital + APAP for years and years for migraines and it felt like taking a more sedating benzo...didn't so much for headaches and had a pretty steep dose response curve....

I recommend getting it filled and even if it doesn't work for your wisdom teeth you'll still have it around, as barbs can be useful for other things. Just do not combine it with alcohol. It will not end well, trust me.

The butalbital in Sedapap can be quite enjoyable, recreationally. For pain, I doubt the Sedapap is going to be better than Tylenol, but there is a good buzz to be gotten. Each tablet should contain 50 mg butalbital. The high is like a very clean alcohol buzz, and is "fun". If you use alcohol a lot, it may not be as good, but still could be very useful for hangovers. For someone with no barbiturate tolerance try 100 mg - 150 mg butalbital for a good high. DO NOT combine with any other CNS depressants unless you are dependent on another CNS depressant, in which case I'd recommend no more than 50 mg butalbital. The lethal dose for barbiturates is very low compared to the recreational dose, and they are quite easy to OD on if you are careless. Also, barbiturate addiction is one of the most heinous addictions, making benzo addiction look like a coffee habit. Seriously, be very, very careful not to take too much or become addicted. Butalbital also lasts longer in effects than it feels, so don't redose for a while unless you are electing to take a lower dose, like 50 mg or one tablet.

Very strange indeed. I could see Sedapap being a good drug for augmentation for a narcotic but it's not a suitable first line treatment for your pain. Are they cracking down on narcotic scripts?

In the U.S., butalbital + acetominophen (50mg/325mg) are called "Phrenillin". It's a great medicine for different types of pain; I take it for migraines/severe tension headaches. It is the best medication I have ever taken for that purpose, and has all but completely eliminated my daily headaches (which are completely debilitating).

As a regular pain med, though, it's not very effective. Not sure why a doc would give it to you for tooth pain. I would go with the tramadol. Actually, my daily meds are tramadol, butalbital/apap, and either gabapentin or pregabalin. Great med combo for severe pain (I also have a fractured collarbone, dislocated shoulder, and a partially torn rotator cuff). This combo has been more effective than any opioid I was on except high-dose buprenorphine, but I do not recommend that shit for pain. Coming off it is worse than any opioid w/d I've ever experienced.

Anyhow, that's my $0.02. Hope everything goes well, tooth pain can really be horrible.

I guess I'll go get the script filled, then... When the nurse came to sign me out, I told her I DO NOT WANT the tramadol, (Hoping to have it replaced with percocet, or lortab). When she came in with the new script for Sedapap, I specifically requested Loritab -- As I've had this before on my OTHER erupted wisdom tooth, about 2 years ago). The nurse said, "She IS NOT going to do that".

I'll let you all know what effects I experience. It's worth mentioning that I have a pretty high tolerance for opiates, so I imagine this will be similar to a low-dose percocet? As long as it doesn't make me sleepy. I get more work done when I've got a buzz -- NOT when I'm assed-out on the couch all day..

It will not be similar to a "low-dose" Percocet at all. That is dangerous thinking. Butalbital is a barbiturate, which I don't think you have any tolerance to. Even when tolerance to barbiturates does accumulate, the lethal dose remains near the same, and the lethal dose is scary low compared to the recreational dose. You must be careful not to take to much over a short period, and you must be sure not become addicted, really can't stress this enough. All dangers aside, and there are plenty, barbiturates can be quite enjoyable. Be careful.

I love a glass of wine with my barbs. But yeah, too much can be dangerous. As in deadly.

OK, so the script was filled, and got the dosage info from Drugs.com, as there was no dosage info on the bottle or Rx from the Doc. 50-650 mg (bye-bye liver). Ate two of em, and my tooth still hurts, but I do feel bit "light". I guess the script was worth filling. Thanks all for the replys.

Two tablets is a good dose to start off with. The "light" feeling is very characteristc of barbiturates in my experience. It is sort of a floaty, fun, semi-fucked up feeling. It is a great drug for really anything. And you will sleep like a baby after taking one or two of them. Trust me.
