If it was for sexual assault purposes why put LSD in it?? Wonder if it was a mistake? Do people mix GHB and LSD? Doesn't sound like a good combo to me. This festival is the one time a year certain harder to get drugs are available to me, I send people off with money every year, I hope stupid shit doesn't get it cancelled. It actually has free on site drug testing, I assume that's how they knew what it was right away.
Security guard drugged with LSD, GHB at Shambhala Music Festival
By Dan Fumano, The Province August 16, 2013 11:15 AM
A security guard at the Shambhala Music Festival was dosed with a dangerous drug cocktail Monday, requiring emergency medical care that “saved her life.”
The incident occurred after the guard was given a sealed bottle of water containing a high concentration of GHB and LSD, according to an open letter from Shambhala’s director of public safety, posted Wednesday to the festival’s Facebook page.
“The guard was rushed to our medical facility where she received acute medical care,” wrote festival director Barry R. Wilding. “If not for our medical team, we are not certain what the outcome might have been. Suffice to say, they saved her life.”
Festival management was not immediately available for comment Friday, but confirmed by email that the guard had recovered and was doing all right.
RCMP confirmed that the incident is the subject of an active investigation, and that they have the water bottle in question and will be performing tests on it.
Billed as “Canada’s premier Electronic Music Festival,” Shambhala has been an annual fixture in Salmo, B.C. in the West Kootenays since 1998, attracting an estimated 10,000 guests.
Every year, a level of recreational drug use is evident at the festival, said RCMP Insp. Nick Romanchuk, said officer in charge of the Kootenay Boundary Regional Detachment.
“It’s certainly the largest festival that we have in the area, and likely the one that generates the most issues for us,” said Romanchuk.
Romanchuk said that local RCMP has had a “cooperative, professional” relationship with Shambhala festival management.
According to an RCMP statement, “Police made over 200 drug seizures consisting Cannabis (marihuana), Hash, Cocaine, MDMA (Ecstasy), Ketamine, Methadone and other drugs ... There are several drug charges being recommended for Possession For the Purpose of Trafficking.”
In his open letter on Facebook, Shambhala director Wilding called for anyone with information about the incident to come forward. He praised the efforts of Shambhala’s security staff and wrote that in the past, they have dealt with “weapons, drug traffickers, gangsters, being assaulted, being verbally abused and so much more that goes unnoticed.”
