Secondary cactus alkaloids not getting along

Over the course of a few days I prepared a tea from 100g of San Pedro chips and 100g of Peruvian Torch chips. I keep the water at or just below 150F, and wound up taking five pulls. Just saying because a) I didn't denature the alkaloids (as far as I know) by boiling and b) someone usually asks.

I've taken large doses before, most recently 200g of San Pedro made into tea. To say that I loved it would be kind of an understatement. I've been stressing over a few things lately and during that trip I was able to concentrate all of the stress and anxiety into a yellow crystal inside my mind. I was then able to force it out through my forehead. That was a few weeks ago and my stress level has been much lower since.

I've taken around 100g of Torch previously and found the visuals to be crisper and more pronounced. However, I find that Torch lacks some of the warm fuzzy spiritual feelings I get from Pedro. I figured they would complement each other. Sometimes I feel agitated or get irritated easily on Torch, so theoretically the Pedro would mellow that out. The results left me 0 for 2.

Anyways, what wound up happening is that I felt very full of mental energy but I couldn't really move or do anything about it. Strangely my limbs felt very light and moved easily, but the actual doing of something was impossible. I kind of felt like I was trapped inside my mind, and while it didn't feel scary at all or like a bad trip, it was very frustrating. It sort of reminded of a time when I ate too much soma, and I couldn't do anything but lay there while my arms and legs were getting electric shocks and twitching and it felt like my bones were made of congealed electricity.

I'm guessing this has to do with the secondary alkaloids clashing. The mescaline present in either type of cactus is identical, so that sort of eliminates it as a suspect unless it was just an effect of too much mescaline. Large doses haven't done that before, but trips are like fingerprints or snowflakes.

Anyone else have a similar experience? I think I will just stick to San Pedro as I enjoy it more. While I didn't enjoy this trip, I still see it as an experience that was worth having. I learned some things I probably wouldn't have otherwise. And to me, drugs aren't always about feeling good or comfortable. This is more about personal growth and change, so by that mark I did accomplish something. :)

It's hard to say what most likely caused it since there's so many variables.. with cacti the mescaline content can vary hugely, as can the other alkaloids.

Even with the same dosage of a pure chemical a psychedelic experience can vary so much depending on so many factors (like you say, trips are like fingerprints). My guess is your experience had more to do with that than combining san pedro and peruvian torch but I've never tried myself so I couldn't say

I was still in the after glow pretty hard when I made the original post. The more I think about it, the more I feel like it was just something with my body chemistry that day. I hadn't slept well at all the night prior to the trip, and I have no doubt that played a factor as well. Sometimes I purge and sometimes I don't, I just look at it as the price of admission and it doesn't bother me. This time it bothered me even though it was just a quick couple of heaves.

I can honestly say I prefer the pedro, so I don't think I'll be getting torch anymore. The huge question mark about potency with each new cactus is the main thing driving me to do want to do extractions. I've had plenty of wasted days where the brew wasn't strong enough. I had been trying to mitigate it by making larger batches at one time and mixing all of the pulls, figuring it would be somewhere closer to average that way. Plus once you drink part of it you have a good idea if you need more or less next time. Just make sure you mix well if it's been sitting.

Achuma is something I've been wanting to try for a while, but may put it off for a bit. I just birthed some cakes today, so my next experiment will probably involve a bit of cactus and a bit of shrooms. I'll be starting at noob dosages for sure with that one, and I haven't shroomed in a couple years so I will probably get reacquainted with psilocybin before I mix.

Very interesting that you reported those effects. My girlfriend described the exact same thing yet I was ready to go wander off on an adventure at any moment - we were using the exact same extract!

I think it's just the nature of tripping - although I think caffeine and diet also play a role. Next time just have a single cup of coffee or a very large Diet Coke... Caffeine and mescaline - they synergize like amphetamines and alcohol ;)
