I'm very sensitive to weed. Four tokes was enough to make me majorly green out, and a single puff while on LSD had me mildly stoned. Those are my only experiences, and I don't plan on ever doing it again, because cannabis causes a powerful dissociative effect in me. Reality ceases to be real because there are no points of reference, and depressive, anxious thought patterns about isolation set in hard.

Last night, driving home, everything became more and more distinctly trippy. Far away, even kind of synthetic and iridescent. Familiar thought patterns entered my head, faint but unpleasant. I found myself easily distracted, dissociated, mildly anxious. I had a slight head buzz and it was difficult to concentrate. At first I thought I was just tired, and that the head buzz came from a recent sunburn. But it got stronger, until time dilated slightly and the music became more distant and ston-ish. It occurred to me that I might actually be stoned.

Prior to this, I'd been with two people who were smoking weed.

Prior to my last acid trip, I'd felt similarly strange, and I'd been with two people who were smoking weed.

In fact, almost every time I've been around others in an enclosed space while they were smoking, I've become dissociated.

Could this be some psychological effect from my past experiences, associated with the act of smoking? Or am I really getting stoned second hand from the exhaled vapour? As I said, I'm very sensitive to it, it doesn't take much. It seems like one of those urban myths peddled by dumbasses, but the more I think about it, the more it makes sense, right down to the trippy lighting in the room I was in last night.

I've never believed that "clam baking" or "hot boxing" or whatever you want to call it will get you high... but... I have seen non-smokers get red eyes and start acting all silly when they sit in my room while I dome a blunt.

To be honest, I've always been with you on that one - "one of those urban myths peddled by dumbasses"... Can't say I haven't *felt* more high after baking a car with a Game or two, though.

perhaps lack of oxygen is the cause of the somewhat delusional or psychedelic-esqe feelings.

This may fit better in Unusual Effects from Cannabis, but I'm not sure, so I'll leave this here for a bit to generate some discussion.

Ive seen people that have sat in a clam baked car with thick cannabis smoke everywhere but didn't take a hit, and still passed a government drug test

Ive also seen the opposite where teammates went to a party where marijuana was being smoked, they tested positive and got kicked off the team. I guess yours is more lie proof though. But anyways heres a quote from a drug testing site:

Is it possible to test positive for THC (Marijuana / Cannabis) from exposure to second hand smoke?
It is not! Urine concentrations of THC above the cut-off sensitivity level of the test, or a positive result, is possible only through use / inhalation. However, second hand smoke will be in the system, but not at the concentrations that would indicate drug abuse.

Hey guys, we avoid drug testing questions here, so if we could move forward without anymore of that, that'd be great.

If you have little/no tolerance I believe it's possible to get somewhat of a high if the rooms got a dense enough cloud floating round. We've got a couple who don't toke to hotbox the bathroom with us (about 8 people in a tiny ass bathroom :( ) and when it came time to leave. Those two had some seeeeerious munchies!

But like I say, with little/no tolerance. If I or any of my smoking friends sat in a hotboxed room I imagine nothing wouldh appen to us. :/

Edit - pretty high, & think i've totally missed the point of this thread..

Although it's only half on topic, I noticed you mentioned you find Cannabis extremely dissociating and unpleasant - I found this my first few times, including my 4th time smoking where I smoked just a few hits on a joint and had an intense out of body experience which to this day rivals some of my strongest psychedelic/dissociative trips. However, after say 5 or 6 times smoking, I got used to the effects, and all I needed to do to avoid those unpleasant side-effects was to keep the amounts I smoked low, or smoke mainly indica rather than trippy dissociating sativa :)

It's likely psychosomatic, if weed has made you have unpleasant experiences, being around it can trigger those memories to unfold and result in you feeling similar sensations of anxiety etc. I remember just hearing about weed made me feel quite anxious and off after that 4th time I smoked, until a week later I smoked again with no problems. Since then I've had no issues and weed has become an incredibly pleasant substance for me, one of my favourites :)

Man, when I even smell weed smoke my mind starts to remember the sweet, sweet sensation of a nice and stoney high. When that happens I immediately chill out.

Classic placebo effect, but I definitely act different when I walk into a cloud of weed smoke.

repsect the green %)

^^this.

I hate it when you get police officers who think actually walking around a room full of cannabis plants can get them high. And they actually act as if they're stoned just standing around someone's cannabis garden too. I've seen it at least a couple of times. I don't know why but it just really pisses me off.

my gf is very sensitive to pot (she rarely smokes, and half a shotgun is enough to get her very high), and she consistently gets high when she sits in the car while i smoke. it could be placebo, but it's so consistent and dose-dependent that i suspect it's from cannabinoids rather than just psychology.

Like it was said before its probably just placebo. But that doesn't mean you aren't high

You probably could get psychotic episodes from weed, I know I've approached that (maybe reached, it's hard to say, but my mental state was far away from baseline for more than five hours after smoking - when it usually only affects me for about 1 1/2 to 2 hours), but then again I also had near 100 mg of methylphenidate as well as well a lil nug of high quality weed vaped. Although not a high dosage really, the combination might have been a bit of amphetamine psychosis.

Then again, I also attempted to make sense of the hallucinations, delusions, synesthesia, etc. and attempted an occult ritual late at night under the effects, so it wasn't the most conducive and supportive environment, especially with no one around.

I imagine it's possible to get stoned by being around second-hand smoke for a while but it's not likely for just a casual get-together. I think it's mostly placebo, maybe some other drugs, maybe a tad bit of weed, and a whole lot of the vibes you get from everybody around you.

As for effects of weed, positive or negative, I agree with Jesusgreen - psychosomatic. Sometimes I'm like "wow, that was awesome! do it again, such euphoric and relaxing effects I remember! everything moves and your mind goes everywhere!" Then later I'm like, "wow, that was horrible! self-conscious, paranoid, and hungry as hell with that 'raw' and 'unclean' feel."

I try to take a lot of breaks again. Too many drugs can be bad. Need to start treating it more like a reward and less like a hobby.

Have noticed that all drugs have a "familiar" feel specific to their type even if the environment differs (though the environment profoundly effects if the experience is positive or negative). Salvia was always nihilistic and pressuring - full of delusions and strange nostalgia, so dark. Cannabis has pretty consistently been very "raw" feeling and connected to the memories, ideas take strange shapes and the sensation is very familiar. But at the same time, it can be very relaxing, invigorating, and you feel "cushioned" from reality. It depends on the environment and other drugs taken.

Getting too familiar seems to be bad as I am starting to experience with cannabis. It loses its spark...so all amphetamines for now I guess. Love that feeling of energy, motivation, endless accomplishment, and sociability - until it's gone too. :P

the amphetamines will lose their sheen too.

Going to guess you are on some now? :)

My, and others too probably, best bet is to just limit usage instead of relying on them for things you can clearly cope with sans a drug cocktail.

You're recreational drug usage experience will be better and you'll probably feel better and less reliant to boot.

I definitely think you could get high from being in a room of people smoking, but I think it would depend on what people were smoking. You most likely would not get high from exhaled smoke (almost all the THC is absorbed before the smoke is exhaled, atleast if people smoke right) so I would think that a bowl or bong would not get you high because all the smoke is getting absorbed. In a joint, alot of the THC burns off without being inhaled (i think it is something like you get 17% of the thc in joints, but dont qoute me on it) so I would think it would be possible to get high off of a joint or blunt being smoked in the room.

It could be endocannabiloids (sp?), I know when I walk threw the woods to my "spot" I start to feel high in excitment for getting high.
