Searching for meaning in life?

meaning can be discovered, it can also be created. two sides of the same coin.

I think this life is some sort of growth or development exercise.

I feel the same way.

If a being that is not of this world dwells within your core and lies behind your sentient experience right now, then I could think of a lot of things that one or more runs of sentient embodied existence could teach such a being. For example, maybe the Master Builder experiences life as human beings and the like, in order to know firsthand what separateness feels like in all its ugly glory.

The earth is like a big magnetic hard disk and we are the dynamic magnetic sectors that hold the memory. We are all connected and arranged throughout the world constantly storing and releasing data to the universe. The stars are what take the memory from the earth and use it to a higher degree and store it further. We are all here to save memories and the more the population grows the more memory the earth can store until it is filled to capacity.

At best, the meaning of life is that which we, as conscious individuals, choose to give it. At worst, there is none whatsoever.

I tend toward the latter generally. While is seems bleak, it also rings truest. Human civilization is what happens when a nearly inconceivable amount of hydrogen is allowed to hang out for about 13.7 billion years.

For some, perhaps. To quote Gagarin: "I see no evidence of a god here". Give enough hydrogen enough time, energy and space, and all kinds of neat things happen all on their own.
