Alrighty, not to let search issues die
In NAE and MW we have instituted a thread title policy to aid in sorting the forum and finding what you're after. All threads start with the State, City and then event DATE then ending with the event NAME and any other relevant info like headliners. For example, "CO, Denver - 11.19.05 Saturday - Underground Sounds feat Bigfoot". Sorting the forum by Thread title gives you an easy way to find all events in your state/city and it lists them in chronological order.
The problem is if you use the search function and search for a date (keyword "11.19.05"), it always returns "No Results". If you use wildcards (keyword "11*19*05") you get useless results.
IS the search function capable of processing non-alphanumeric characters that are not wildcards (like hyphens, periods, question marks, etc)? Can it process some but not others (should we switch to colons, hyphens, or something besides a period)? Or, do we need to re-evaluate our DATE formats? I could see us switch to "Nov 19" but then a title sort would get out of whack (Dec occuring before Nov, and all).
Input from Sr. Admins and Engineers on the search capabilities would be helpful for general knowledge. Alternative suggestions to fix our problem (other dating schemes) would also be appreciated from anyone. Thanks.
