a small group of friends were thinking of visiting to scotland because it is really beautiful and love the idea that the highlands still have their own natural pace of life, if that assumption is correct.
so yeah any places you would recommend?

I would go to Orkney if I were you. A trip up the west coast, some island hopping and then to Scrabster for the ferry to Orkney/Shetland. Get ferry back to Aberdeen down east coast to Edinburgh. Sorted.
