What causes weed to stink up a house? For instance, i just smoked in my room and my whole house stank, but that's never happened before in the 2 years ive been smoking in my room. Im just curious as to why this happened.

By the way before anyone asks, I am 18, I just dont go to college. Yet anyway.

lol. we dont really check your age, i think there is a mod as young as 16. I wont name names...anyways.

Why does weed stink your room up? Well its partly just because of smoke from the combustion of plant material. The chemicals inside the plant and how much of the chemicals is in them, and how much you smoke all determine how smelly it gets. Also I'd imagine the heat at which you burn them effects it.

Cannabis indeed has a distinct smell, and quick google pulls up a great article on what makes plants, or more spicifically weed, smell. heres an overview and link:

Have you ever wondered how the strain Blue Dream can smell so similar to fresh blueberry doughnuts? Or how a sniff of the K.O. Kali-O seems to burst with citrus just like a California Orange? Yes, it is the cannabis. More specifically, what you are really smelling (and tasting) are terpenes.
Terpenes are a large and varied class of hydrocarbons (made up of hydrogen and carbon), produced by a wide variety of plants and also, some insects.

Terpenes are referred to as terpenoids when denatured by oxidation (like being dried and cured) or chemically altered by some rearrangement of the carbon skeleton. They are the main component of any plant resin or essential oils and play many important roles in the plant kingdom- from deterring insect predation, protection from environmental stresses and vitally, as chemical building blocks for more complex molecules, like cannabinoids, certain hormones, vitamins (Vitamin A), pigments and sterols

So if this weed made you room smell more than other times in the past it is probs stronger. its a good thing.

I have no idea about the science behind that....but i was born and raised in Florida which has some of the worst mosquitoes in the world...and...well come to think of it overall i have never had an issue with them biting me as much as some other people....hmmmmm

^ I wonder if smoking weed in a more closed space would repel mosquitoes?

Me and some friends had a running "joke" that every time we had a session all the insects seemed to disappear... fruit flies, mosquitoes, flies, bees, wasps, gnats... the second we sparked it was like they scattered.

I always thought a burning blunt was a pretty effective insect repellant.

^ Only humans are hedonistic enough to repeatedly inhale burning plant matter just for the sake of a short-lived high, insects are like "wat is this shit let's get outta here."

Cannabis plants came to contain THC for the sake of defending itself from insects, iirc, another reason being that the trichomes containing the THC help to pollinate the female plant.

i have never seen a koala in the wild...well when i was real young apparently but i dont remember that...its fucking disgusting how we are abusing our native flora and fauna. i don't know how the aborigines stay sane while we rape, pillage, and plunder...it's a crazy crazy world, full of stupid stupid people! fuck people, bring on the bomb or the next plague...

If you in your parents house its most likely better to smoke at the side of the house etc. What makes weed stank i have no idea, but bottom line is it does. So if i were you i would not smoke inside enclosed areas. Unless you own you own place which you do not. Also I wound not smoke in your car. If you get pulled over your fucked instantly.

I've got a similar question, my housemate is trying to quit weed, and I've taken to smoking in my bedroom so I don't make his life difficult. He reckons I shouldn't smoke in there because it will make all my stuff smell like weed.

My question is, how long will it actually linger for? It's not like its completely enclosed, I leave the windows open to ensure fresh air circulation. Personally I don't notice any lingering smell, but that could be just that I'm used to it?

If you must smoke inside, small one hitters are usually the best option. If you cannot do that, then pack single hits only and make sure you blow the smoke out a window. Obviously, this becomes more difficult as it gets colder, but it can make a huge difference. I don't think this would be an issue in Australia, especially considering its summer for you guys down there.

I have found that the smell of Cannabis is strong initially but often dissipates, it doesn't linger as much unless the room is smoked out constantly.

But to be honest, nobody can tell you exactly how long the smell will hang around for and there are tons of variables. If its a risk then do not do it.

I smoke in my room all the time with my door closed but my window open and a fan blowing. Not once has the owner of the house mentioned the smell. He lives here and has his daughter over every 2nd weekend. He knows I smoke and I've told him to tell me if he notices the smell.

Your clothes will smell like smoke, but not noticeably pot-like. If your housemate walks in your room though it will be instantly noticeable if you've had a few cones.

according to some the answer is vaporization-

Cool, thanks guys. I'm not so much worried about the others in the house, they're pretty chill. I was more concerned if my siblings (or even worse, my parents!) would notice if they come and visit...I have to keep this side of me very, very far from their knowledge, unfortunately.

can insects even get high? i would think they lack the essential pieces of the brain lol... anyway, its the smoke itself that would repel insects. most or all animals (including insects) instinctively react to smoke by distancing themselves from it. although the heat itself and the smell (the weed itself not the smoke) would probably be more of an attractant than a repellent.

Best ways I have found to deal with the smell is 2 fold burn a strong incense and crack the window. I smoke regularly in my room and this seems to help the most. Other good way if you don't mind the cold is to smoke outdoors.
