~Review Thread~Zoolufest Midwest~Columbus July 5th~

Ok so I have no voice left, but I want to hear what you all have to say. I haven't danced and moved so hard since either Tiesto in Chicago or Destination in Indy. Let me hear all of your thoughts. I am off to bed. Thanks to everyone who came out last night. More later.

Brandon

well here is my cents of last nights festivities:

I got there around 600 to be greeted by a full body cavity search @ the door. Something that had to be done in this day and time i guess.

Shapeshifter v. Sinister
Well I caught the last end of it, so I really cant how good it was. I did score a CD from shapeshifter that Im looking forward to however.

Bombay
Never heard this cat before, but his table skills were very good and tight, with a scratch to match. Im not into turntablism very much, but I did enjoy his set.

JJ Boogie
It is amazing how much GOOD DJ talent there is in Ohio. His trance was on point and it was a good way to really get the evening going. Looking forward to his CD as well.

Craze
It was like Hide-n-go seek trying to find where he was gonna be at. Finally, he tore it up on the main stage, and had a crowd to suck it all in. It was probably better put him in the main stage, cause it was packed.

Kid Chaos
Its was business as usual for him in the lounge. Not a big crows to hear him, but the dude never dissappoints. It was good to be able to see his skills up close and personal with how the booth was set up.

PLANET OF THE DRUMS
There was much hype up while all were getting their shit ready for it. A lotta hype, and a lot of emotion about the scene and where its going. Once everything was set up, it was on!!! This was probably the best show i've ever seen or heard. Bomb after bomb after bomb, with Sharpness and Messinian MCing their asses off!! And to top it all off, Craze slid in and funked da little shit up as well. It was great to see everyone jump up and just take it all in. I dont think that it gets any better than those 1 1/2 hours of TRU DnB. My feet still hurt!!

Baby Anne
Now I caught her in her last 1/2 hour or so, so heres my impression on it. She was not a happy girl. Being in the room you could hear that there were sound problems, which is understandable to be upset with. She was not letting anyone take her picture, and she looked to be in a bad mood the whole time. She still brought the bass, but one can get turned off by the personality of the DJ. maybe she had a case of her monthlies.

Nautikat
Good set, not a lot of people to hear it, but who cares. She was bumpin' and I hope her CD is just as good.

The best part of the night was in the Lounge around 200. The crowd was hype, John B was spinning, Messinian was MC'ing, and DSL, AK1200, Craze, and Baby Anne was all chillin in the room. I mean how FREAKIN' cool was that!

GREAT venue, GREAT lighting, GREAT sound, good setup, and friendly workers. I mean what else can you ask for. EXCELLENT EVENT!!

Now on the downside:
Halo & Hippe - Where were these guys? Did they play? Did they show?

Lastly, If your gonna get funked up, have a plan of what to do, instead of passing out in a corner. If you cant handle your drugs, you shouldn't be doing them. keep bouncin'

I can't write a complete review, however, here are my thoughts.
First of all, I must say that I loved Baby Anne's set. I got there about 10 minutes before she went on, and she was awesome! She was signing autographs and such, and I was a bit disappointed in how few people were there to here her.

Planet of the Drums - now, I didn't catch a ton of this, but what I saw was amazing!

Nelson - I caught some of your set, and I loved it!

All in all, I heard awesome music in every room I was in - I was in heaven! Plus, someone needs to kick the crap out of those people laying all over the floor - they kill the scene. Seriously people - you the ones they show on Dateline and 20/20.

Yeah, I'm curious about H-Foundation as well, that was the only reason I went......well that and to help promote for Technacolour. Saw some other dope house music though, but I don't know who they were.

MMM the gyro was good, but they didn't have any drinkage to wash it down with.....

Overall I did have fun, even if I didn't get to see 2 of my fav djs.

Oh, last thought: Cincinnati would be so lucky as to have cops as cool at the two officers there last night.

OMG! What can I say?
I mean I caught about the last part of shapeshifter and sinister and from what I was they tore it up! as usual.
The Venue was great!
the people were awsome!
I got to meet sinister who hooked me up with a cd. Which kicks ass!
and Planet of The Drums!?
Oh My! I can't say enough
I love DnB and AK1200 and DieselBoy are 2 of my Fav Dj's and my first time seein any of em. and Craze Tore it up with his set. and the MC's? Mad Mad props to y'all.
Oh...Does anyone know who spun right before JJ Boogie? Was that Dj Magik? whoever it was tore it up as well. I got there around 4:00 and stayed till just about 1/2 hour into Kimbell Collins. But it's cool I got to see my fav dj's and I am still blown outta my mind. I left and my legs were jello, my neck and back hurt, and my arms were just blah! and I gotta say that I loved every minute of it!
whose goin to IndepenDANCE?? I know I'll be there, as well as the next Boat Party. See ya Kids!

Yesterday was the bomb, I'm going to write more in a little bit after I collect my thoughts.

is anyone forgetting GRAY AREA?!?!?!?!? THESE DOODS TORE IT UP! Very very happy with their set, grooved the whole way through. POTD was excelllant, kimbal was blech, and john b tore it up in the lounge ;) Very nice party, glad i came.

i bet the dude selling the food made a fortune

givin' a big shout to mike and saying thanks for one of the best times ive had all year.

last night was hott, and im not talking temperature-wise.

lounge room was my favorite... i didnt want to leave.

thanks again mike, and to all...

QUALITY!!!

eventhough it was incredibly hot and my hair turned frizzy we had a blast. dj craze tore it up! and baby ann threw down some nice tracts. i didn't get to see barely any of planet of the drums cuz the crowd was to thick to breath in and wanted to see baby ann.... so it was an awesome night and i was glad i could make it out with my boy and my best friend!!!

Short party review.

I really enjoyed....

....gray area, Kimbal, centrex, foursquare, kid chaos, shapeshifter and sinister, and nelson (despite the needle problems)

I really did not enjoy....

.....baby anne's attitude

.....the heat

.......the technical difficulties were kind of a downer but hey thats life eh.

Our crew was large but spread out for most of the party. I spent the time w/ my lady and thats how I like it anyway Nice seein BA as always, whited, eternalX, wondci2 and boi and of course my man ogre holdin those breakers in check. There's a fallen angel sleeping in my house as we speak (trooper). Skippie dood you're not THAT old ya think you can make it thru a party? alson nice seein dick ritchie and addicted2trance again you guys rock hope you made it home okies:)
TLB, great meetin ya bud hope to hear from ya soon.

If I missed anyone soo solly but it's my best guess that you don't really mind that much

Mike~ excellent job w/ the party man. you handled your business and Im proud to call you a friend. Outstanding talent, sound, light and accomodations all day long (except it was hot as a fuck) I hope you at least hit your break so you can keep throwin these bomb ass parties in columbus

peash all

First off, i wanna say a big ass THANK YOU to Mike for having me out to spinat Zoolu last nite. The vibe was insane in the club last nite. Was so much fun running around the different rooms, seeing lots of people play i've never had the chance to see.

POTD.... all i can say is holy f**king hell did they rock! I'm not known to be too much of a D&B fan, but those guys i think are converting me ;) I've never seen that main room so packed.

Thanks to the peeps who stayed in my room last nite, I hope you enjoyed my set. I really did have a great time. And i hope you like the cds :)

Mad props to all the promoters for throwing this party.... It's one i won't soon forget :)

Okay, run down time!

Mike: Congratulations on a show well done! I know you put alot of time and effort into pulling this together, it was well orchestrated and from the looks on everyone's faces, the people had a good time! Thanks for making it happen.

People: I was happy to see some familiar faces, and meet some new people as well. I always have a nice time hangin with cravN and his girly. Reco Dosage, randy, MOS & Hubby, wondci2, dave and stace. It was a treat to meet some new bluelighters, too! The Love Bandit - Im glad I finally got to meet you, you seem like a no-nonsense kinda guy, these MW idiots should fear for their lives! TwinBabie - Wow! 8o HOT...hot...hot... Glad to meet the very beautiful FallenAngel you seem like a really, really sweet girl. Good luck spinnin! MR2 Vision very nice to meet you as well. (she ain't the prettiest thing in the world, is she?) ;)

Music: I'm just glad I got an autographed Shapeshifter CD! Dude, it's fuckin bangin. I'm not a real dnb fan, but this CD is automatically in my rotation. I like it alot, as well as the JJ BOOGIE CD I got, hot damn it's on fire!

I was really impressed with the Shapeshifter/Sinister set, that was the shit! People just adore those two, you can really tell, good stuff guys! Centrex was really a surprise, I've never heard much from him until yesterday, I was definitely happy! Same with Devo, good ass house, fuckin eh, it was tight!

The mix up with Quantum and Glenn was a downer, but what can I do? I was really excited to see Xavier, which is the only reason I came so early, oh well, shit happens.

Crowd: Not as packed as I had hoped, maybe it was the weather. People really seem to get into dnb nowadays, it seems thats where the crowds were all day. Maybe I'm just getting old, but it really does become disheartening to see people all puddled up on the floor, and 20 something year old guys walking around with pacifiers in their mouths. At some point in life you just have to leave the binkey at home, maybe now isn't their time, I don't know. I just hate kids who sit on the dance floor with a passion. I'd like to pour kerosene all over them and, well, nevermind.....

I would also like to congratulate the newest Millionaire, "THE FOOD VENDOR" . Talk about a hustle, that man must've made a fortune yesterday!

(I even saw ol' Chad Allen cruzin the crowd!)

ALL I CAN SAY IS I HAD A BLAST!!!
i came in with a good mood and i left with an even better and bigger smile.

Came in right when S & SS were playin and they str8 tore it up as always. Then i caught Craze's set and after finally hearing this man's set he completely blew my fuckin mind. Given the fact that she was dealing with technical difficulties all night I would say she held it down pretty damn well, and her attitude couldnt have been to bad cause she was taking time to sign a whole lot of autographs for the ppl that were there showing her love. That room was damn hot though but hey reminded me of some older indy parties haha. Then i caught some of John B in the small cafe style room and damn that man rips it everytime. And ya the cops were cool as hell, one of them was sittin there during John B's set and was just flowin to the MC, it was a good site to see. I almost forgot but J.J.'s set fuckin ripped it as well. Mark Mayhem had me movin for the short time i was in the room but he was throwing down for shure. For the rest of the night i was pretty much roaming around but I had a blast.

What a lineup, what a time!

I want to thank everyone who came out yesterday to support ZOOLU MIDWEST. BLUE ADONIS...finally, I got to meet one of the many faces behind BLUELIGHT...it was very nice to finally meet you and I look forward to seeing you at another event soon. I want to thank all the promoters especially Michael Nunnery for all that you did to make the festival all that it was...THE FESTIVAL WILL BE ONE THAT'S TALKED ABOUT FOR A LONG TIME B/C OF THE MEMORIES, THE MUSIC, AND THE PEOPLE...THANK YOU MY FRIEND! Fellow ZOOLU partiers, Mike worked his butt off to make this day happen! I also want to thank all the DJs that played their hearts out in all that heat! You ALL rocked it.....Shapeshifter & Sinister brought the crowd into Status with their admirable drum and bass tag set. The love and the passion you two show is truly visible. Mark Mayhem and Jason "Lemon" Lyman showed their love for house music. Definitely one of my favorite sets of the evening...it's too bad lots of people were listening to the Planet of the Drums at the same time and missed out but for all the people who were in the lounge knows that house music lives! I really enjoyed Seth and Mack from Indianapolis...I will be emailing you two so I can possible snag a copy of a cd....loved the music, absolutely loved it! Lady Foursquare was great even though the heat in that room was insanely unbearable. Absolutely enjoyed Grayarea...saw them entertaining the crowd in Miami at WMC and they entertained all of us for sure last night! Planet of Drums...awesome even though I didn't watch much b/c of all the people. Kimball Collins....I still understand why this man is one of my favorites! He rocked it with his ultimate and uplifting trance....pounded some heavier music in too! Again, great day for a party and very memorable in my eyes!

Thanks again and remember keep dancing!!! The music won't stop until we all stop supporting and THAT DEFINITELY WON'T HAPPEN!

Cheers,

Lesley
