quarter-century after the U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved the first prescription drugs based on the main psychoactive ingredient in marijuana, additional medicines derived from or inspired by the cannabis plant itself could soon be making their way to pharmacy shelves, according to drug companies, small biotech firms and university scientists.

A British company, GW Pharma, is in advanced clinical trials for the world's first pharmaceutical developed from raw marijuana instead of synthetic equivalents_ a mouth spray it hopes to market in the U.S. as a treatment for cancer pain. And it hopes to see FDA approval by the end of 2013.

Sativex contains marijuana's two best known components – delta 9-THC and cannabidiol – and already has been approved in Canada, New Zealand and eight European countries for a different usage, relieving muscle spasms associated with multiple sclerosis.

If this doesnt prove how the government blatantly ignores the medicinal properties of weed i dont know what will.

This is misleading. Sativex is a marijuana tincture, so of course it contains these two cannabinoids. It also contains all the other cannabinoids you'd expect to find in weed, because it is weed.

My prediction is that when this is approved, marijuana will simultaneously inhabit schedules 1 and 3, like GHB.

Anyone have any additional scientific info on Sativex concerning other possible cannabinoids?
I wonder if GW Pharm is doing anything in their extractions the excludes or reduces to insignificant amounts the other cannabinoids from the marijuana they make their tinctures from. I would assume the cannabinoids are so similar to each other that filtering out the ones you don't want would be quite the task if even possible.

Good find, OP.

I like the way this sounds. I personally will take when I can get when it comes to positive steps in the direction that many, if not all, of us here on bluelight want to see. From what I've seen, some of the media has a positive opinion of pot-or at least is willing to show positive things about it rather than completely demonizing it and imo, attention will raise public awareness and show people its a great medicine for both mental and physical ailments.
