Can someone give me a good distinction between the two. Which strand do we receive from lets say your average dealer. And which one do you prefer.

This has been answered and discussed a ton of times, please use the search function first. But I will give you a quick answer.
Basically, Sativas will give you a more of a trippy-heady high and grow taller as a plant, and Indicas are more of a couch-lock body high. Most mids and beasters (at least around here) are usually going to be hybrids (both Sat. and Ind.) Hope this helps!
