This was my second go-round with the mighty mescaline molecule (in the form of San Pedro cactus) and was by far my most enjoyable experience. Here's a rundown of the events:
De-spined, peeled, and cut from the core 10 inches of fat SP cactus. Dried in front of a fan and in the oven (on "warm" setting), alternating between the two for about 6 hours. (Made sure to use non-stick cooking spray this time!) Took the finely chopped and newly dried cactal material and powderized it using a weed grinder. It was really greasy from the cooking spray, so I sopped up some of the oil with coffee filters/paper towels before packing the powder into gel caps, about 35-40 total.
Took the capsules on a semi-full stomach with crystallized ginger to help with nausea. Took the pills in 1/3rd the total dose at intervals of 30 minutes. ABSOLUTELY NO DISCOMFORT OR NAUSEA WAS EXPERIENCED AT ANY TIME. Had a couple sips of poppy tea beforehand to avoid withdrawals during the trip. This added a euphoric, relaxed feeling to the comeup that was not there last time.
The trip itself was subtle but very intense at the same time. CEVs were indescribable, euphoric feelings were present the whole time, and my thoughts tended toward the spiritual. I felt lowered inhibitions/anxiety, which compelled me to start conversations with people, which I almost never do due to anxiety issues. It was like feeling happiness from a different part of my brain than the usual opiate or marijuana euphoria, which I really enjoyed. Art was amazing to look at, music had a strange distorted quality to it, and time seemed to literally fly by. The experience was very close to what I've read/heard about ecstasy--the tactile sensations, urge to empathize and talk, euphoria, etc.
Set and setting were as follows: at home, alone for half the trip, nice weather outside, good mood and mental state. Listened to music, surfed the web, read books, and sat on my patio among my many plants/flowers, and wrote thoughts down as they came to me. I tried taking a nap once, only to be overwhelmed with mental images (CEVs) that prevented sleep. I was having bad allergies that greatly affected my eyesight, which was very annoying and I'm sure lessened the visual aspect of it. (I have horrendous eye allergies and wear contacts.) My appetite was unaffected, and I ate normally throughout the experience.
I feel like I gained a lot and plan to do it again in the not-too-distant future. Because of San Pedro's antibacterial properties and other health benefits, it seems prudent to utilize the cactus at least once every other month. Not to mention the way it opened me up to social situations and shed light on some of the issues facing me at the time. Of the hallucinogens I've tried--salvia, shrooms, and San Pedro--I definitely prefer San Pedro. It's more upbeat and spiritual, whereas mushrooms are more "psychedelic" and visual, warping things to the point of near madness. To each her own, but this is my experience.
