Salvia for Depression and Anxiety

@sol
the mind-clearing and grounding effects of salvia, IME, are best acheived from frequent and low doses. They manifest after the main effects of the salvia (which absolutely aren't mind-clearing and grounding) have subsided, it's rather like the after effects of NMDA antagonists...

*Thank* you. *This* is what I have been trying to say.

That puts it in better perspective.

(Although I am not particularly fond of the after effects of NMDA antagonists)

I respectfully disagree. DMT is often anti-depressent, but it can easily swing the other way and contribute to anxiety, even with micro-dosing (or *especially* with microdosing). Salvia, in contrast, is consistently mind-clearing and grounding.

Also, in terms of availability, Salvia is much more practical. I am a strong proponent of using Salvia for resolving hidden thought patterns that contribute to anxiety and depression. It really really works.

not at all in my experience. when i first tried salvia (5x extract) i just wanted to try a little bit but more or less lost control and compulisively smoked a few more bowls until i got a breakthrough. kinda like n2o, once you start you'll take more until you run out or are gone.
i also didn't find it in any way beneficial. it left me confused, anxious and feeling exactly the opposite of grounded every time i took it (even in subsequent experiments where i succeeded in keeping the dose low). it is a very strange drug and of course ymmv.

dmt on the other hand has always been bliss to me and even low doses, which only lead to a slight body high (no need to go overboard here; besides i find dmt extremely easy to dose, i always get the intensity i shoot for, everything from slight mood improval to outer space is ime easily attainable), improve my mood for days.

YMMV, YMMV, YMMV.

This thread is about "Salvia for Depression and Anxiety," not "Comparing Salvia and DMT," just a reminder. The OP is asking about Salvia, let's talk about Salvia, not recommend other drugs to him.

For the OP's purposes, you've got the right idea with low-strength extracts. You don't want to blast off into other worlds. A mere alteration of this reality would suffice.

I've also found that the quid method is a wonderful way to explore your consciousness productively and safely, still keeping the anti-depressant effects, for sure. It takes longer: ~30 min to rehydrate dry leaves, +30 min of chewing, +30 min of coming down. But if you can find the time and space to do it, it's great.

I consider most psychedelics to be a "gamble," in the sense that the experience could take a turn for the worse and take a toll on your mental/emotional stability. However, low-dose Salvia seems to be an exception. I rarely, if ever experience real anxiety on Salvia. Uneasiness, yes. Fear, no, not if you treat the plant with respect.

What is the quid method?
Im just waiting for my salvia to arrive now.
Quite excited

suggesting DMT to someone who hasnt smoked anything and hasnt mentioned previous experience of any other psychs seems extreme to point of near trolling IMO

Not trolling. I wish I could go back, and start with IV DMT, instead of all the other psychedelics I've done.

Just saying.

This thread is about "Salvia for Depression and Anxiety," not "Comparing Salvia and DMT," just a reminder. The OP is asking about Salvia, let's talk about Salvia, not recommend other drugs to him.

I'd rather give advice that I think would actually alleviate depression; it doesn't make sense to use salvia for depression IMO.

While DMT does have a fantastic antidepressant effect I'm not sure this is appropriate solution for OP... requires extreme mind-exploding and deep exploration of the universe, which isn't for everyone ;) (especially not for OP since he says he is at rock bottom...)

You can take small dosages of DMT; and it is for everyone, considering it is in everyone.

DMT is NOT for everyone. How can you say that??? Even at small dosages...

To you it makes perfect sense to use DMT for depression, and to me it makes perfect sense to use Salvia for depression. Hence, YMMV. Can we give it a rest?

To the OP, have you tried counseling/therapy? Have you talked to your doctor about anti-depressants? You say you are at rock bottom, what options have you already tried?

Salvia can be frightening and you will need a trusted sitter for your first tries in case you take too much and go into a trip. I personally haven't had much of an antidepressant effect from salvia, although there is a calm that comes after the trip.
