Hello Bluelighters,

I am a long time lurker (about 6 years or so) and have finally decided to join in the fun. A little about myself -- I am currently a Medical Student with a short history of work in the pharmaceutical industry. I am fascinated by pharmacology, particularly the amazing possibilities it offers for self-improvement. On the other side of that coin I am also deeply fascinated with the roots of addiction, abuse, and misuse. It is my intention to reduce the latter to the greatest extent possible. Like I said, I am a Medical Student and currently envision myself pursuing a career in Pain Management Anesthesiology. If you are in medicine to reduce suffering, I don't see any better place to be than in Pain Management (both for addiction intervention and temporal trauma response mediation through pharmacotherapy). Ask me anything about opiates! I am particularly fascinated with them.
As for history of drug use, it is extensive. Suffice it to say that I can count what i have not tried on one hand. I am neither prideful nor ashamed of this, it is what it is. My current academic environment, maturity level, and life priorities have caused my drug use to plummet. Sobriety is a wonderfully beautiful state all on its own. However, I have an extensive knowledge regarding most compounds and am here to help in any way that I can. Knowledge is power, and when it comes to substances of abuse it is the power over life and death -- thriving and surviving. So here I am! Finally part of the community and ready to contribute.

Best Regards to All,

So my experience has typically been this... Have a Question --> Check Bluelight --> Possibly Find Answer --> Reference with Peer Reviewed Literature --> Implement New Info... This leaves me mildly confused as to how one "bluelights", especially as a newbie. Should I just look through different Sub-Forums and post? Am I restricted in any way? I'm 95% sure this has been blatantly answered already while signing up, but just for simplicity's sake could someone humor me and kind of give me a crash course. For example... What do you experienced Bluelighters do right after you sign on?

You are not restricted in any way except in writing Blogs (you'll need to have 50 posts first) and in the number of PMs you can send and receive (except to moderators and those have no limit. Again, at 50 posts, when you attain Bluelighter status, this goes away. It is intended to discourage those who may join to source or sell drugs).

Please feel free to share your experience and knowledge in any of the forums but I'd like to extend a particular invitation to the recovery subforums, The Dark Side, Sober Living and Mental Health. Many, many members are struggling with opiate addictions that began with pain prescriptions. They now deal with both the initial cause (chronic pain) and addiction issues--a conundrum I would not wish on anyone!

Take a read through the BLUA and the Greenlighters guide (they are short and to the point!). I usually click on the Forums tab at the top and see what is new at the moment in each one. Then I get swallowed into the great Bluelight vortex and emerge quite a bit of time later having argued about current events, learned a new fact about a drug, debated the current philosophies driving mental health treatment, waged war on the war on drugs, and checked in on the latest from voices that I always benefit from hearing (when I see their user names). Warning: Bluelight is a time sink!;)

Indeed! I love it. So far, there has not been one time where I checked in that I didn't get sucked in by one thing or another. Even if it results in just lurking, if I don't feel I have anything to contribute, but usually I try to.

Jump on in and see for yourself.:-)
