salt! (an inane update)

i am sitting here munching on salt like its chips or something. and trying to get the motivation to cook dinner or go meet friends for drinks. but chances are, i am going to stay in and be a salt eating hermit.

Wow, you're eating salt straight out of the jar?

I'm avoiding all contact with rock salt at the moment. It reminds me too much of a certain substance that I'm trying to keep away from. :\

lol, yes, i am eating it out of the jar. sodium is going to kill me one of these days.

and good luck on your recovery sweet p!

Oh man, that looks like some crazy awesome salt. Ages ago I saw on a cooking show a fellow (I think that it was Jamie Oliver) made some flavoured salts for something; possibly homemade chips or something equally vanilla. One was a chili lime salt, and the other was just a bunch of orange zest pulverized with some coarse finishing salt in a mortar and pestle. Looked great.

You wouldn't use a really good salt (a la fleur de sel, pink salt, or the awesome looking stuff you're munching on a_c) for that, but it would be a cool way to jazz up some storebought kosher salt for a special occasion. Ooh, or for rimming glasses.

i want to make some vanilla salt for desserts because i love the salty/savoury combination. but i forget vanilla beans every time i am at the store :\

the next time i splurge on myself, i want the salt sampler pack of 24 different salts in a case:

i also keep these on hand for seasoning just about everything:

i should try to mess around and make my own seasoning salt one of these days...

I've not tried many 'seasoning salts', but the ones that I have tried tend to just be loaded with sugar. Fuck that noise.

Ages ago I made my own 'Bam' seasoning, a la Emeril. I'll try to dig through my recipes and see if I can recall what was in it. It was pretty great, but I almost never used it.

the ones i posted above are just sea salt and fresh herbs mixed together.

and i still like lawry's on my fries, even tho its fairly sugary.

i never realized i could talk so much about salt!
