So, I have a friend that is on Zoloft and Abilify. She wants to start taking kratom yet I read it’s potentially dangerous to mix kratom and SSRIs. Yet she says people on Reddit are telling her it’s safe. Am I just being overly cautious or is it safe to mix?

I guess the clearer risk potentially is SS. Yet again, people are telling her it’s safe on Reddit because kratom is a plant. Like all plants are without risks. I figured I’d come here and ask because I trust bluelight and if you all say it’s safe then I’ll relay the information to her.

I personally am not a fan of SSRIs but I guess for some people they do help. Anyway, that’s a whole another subject.

Thanks as always all.

It's safe enough with reasonable dosing of kratom. Risk of SS is pretty low in general with kratom. It has been implicated in SS case reports a few times, but other drugs were more to blame.

I've had SS before which kratom contributed to, but ashwagandha was actually the main cause (very high doses for 2+ months). Never had issues after that.

And yeah, reddit is deluded.

She would have warning signs of SS before anything serious developed. Many people don't recognize the warning signs of opioid induced SS, then take more opioids to counteract the symptoms which makes it worse.

For me the warning signs were anxiety, agitation, sweating, tremors, temperature sensitivity, confusion, goosebumps/tingling, and odd physical sensations.

Thanks man! I really appreciate the information. So basically it should be safe but watch out for signs of SS that you listed just in case?

From what I have read it seems like kratom has minimal effect on serotonin so I’m guessing the issue is that it inhibits liver enzymes which essentially increases the dose of Zoloft.

I will let her know that it is safe and to watch out for the signs of SS just in case. I did refer her to this site so that she can ask questions and get true unbiased feedback with people that take harm reduction seriously so maybe she will see this post before I talk to her. Thanks again man.

Oh, one more thing. She has been sitting on the kratom she has for over a year. Will it still be good? She has it but never tried it.

So I was doing great man.
I didn’t go out of my way to get them but I found some adderral I had hid when I was high from myself and forgot about yesterday and if it’s in my hand and no one is around all bets are off.

It’s just my krytomite when I get to that point but today’s a new day. It was only about 80mg IR.

The question is I slept off and on last night probably a good 3 hours. But I started abilify 10mg yesterday as well but didn’t start it until coming down off the stims.

I just took some Kratom at 1150an. 12 grams steeped and filtered. 10mg abilify last 2am night. And I feel like I’m falling instant asleep when I’m not meaning too/ I’m guess it’s just sleep deprivation. It’s not from taking them both probably? I really want to get some

summary- abused adderral yesterday but slept 3-4 hours and falling instant asleep while engaged in activities out of no where.

I’m guessing I just need sleep because I don’t have any other issues
Edit: really think it’s sleep deprivation bit I slept several hours. Maybe it’s because y

Funny you mention that. I had odd episodes of narcolepsy in the past. I was taking APs and Adderall as well at the time. About 2 hours after dosing kratom I would fall asleep at work, standing up.

Maybe unrelated, maybe some interaction. Idk. I was usually sleep deprived around that time as well.

Yeah man just surprised because the first half the day I wasn’t losing that at all and o haven’t took anything since water day at 7 I think. So must be something.

there were a few medications I noticed kratom interacted with quite severely, APs, oxcarbazepine, lithium.

one time I had tremors so bad it looked like I had late stage parkinson's

but yeah I used to dose kratom and then like 90 min later I would become overwhelmingly tired, so tired I couldn't just shake it off, I literally almost fell over from falling asleep standing up. I remember it usually lasted around 3 hours.

I never really knew what it was at the time. I told my doctor and he was like wtf? It all started right after I started taking risperidone/olanzapine, and I was on a few other things too but mostly just adderall and alcohol.

Now that you posted this, I believe it was probably kratom interacting with an AP, maybe adderall too idk.

I noticed that larger doses, especially when you go over 6g, caused the most issues. Back then I was dosing like 12-14g each time.

Yeah idk. I did some research and I was already thinking my dr who started me on max dose testosterone went a little too agressive with the dosage. Turns out hormonal spikes can cause narcoleptic symptoms and abilify is known to exacerbate it though it’s supposedly the least sedative effects.

Stop I certainly didn’t notice it until after the kratom so idk. And this has been lasting for maybe 7 hours, but better than it was much better

Edit- also vraylar caused severe akathesia and it’s also an atypical AP. I don’t think il going to continue this. I will go to my GP and ask for Clonidine. I do not think I’m manic. I think I just get hyper at times from ADHD but will not let them RX stims anymore.

You just described the typical side effects I get from taking kratom minus confusion. My gf gets them too.
I've retroactively concluded that reaction was not SS, but some severe interaction between synthetic (s) nicotine and kratom.

It was bad enough that I went to the hospital. Twice.

That's a whole different thread.

In my case, it wasn't kratom. I've been taking it for a decade without any side effects like that.
