Long story short i have been in a shitty depression for 2years . It started when i first got prescribed SSRI for my OCD 3 years ago.

after going through multiple ssris, mood stabalizers, anti psychotics, with no success besides the SSRI recently that stopped crying spells.

anyways i took an adderall 20mg last week since i was fed up and i thought i might end up with a mind racing

like usual but it did nothing but help.

I think adderall made me feel better because of the obvious effect on the brain, but i think ive had add/adhd all through high school and now im 20.

Then i question if im just being a pussy and the adderall is just helping from the dopamine boost, which if so, i assume down regulation is in place after say a months use or more.

tldr

for a deeply depressed person with undiagnoised ADHD as far as im concerned., would a daily adderall treatment help me in the long run, or will i just end up even more depressed when a tolerance develops? I rather not fuck with the drug for the concentration benefits if i will end up even more depressed, tho in my mind i am at rock bottom, everyone around me is happy and i snap because im so anxious over my intrusive thoughts and lack of confidence to get shit down.

I dont feel really high on it. I feel great in the sense that i can not focus on my intrusive thoughts like when i was a teenager and actually have the energy to get off my ass and do something, while being able to not always second guess my self due to a shitty self esteem.

and yes im in therapy. its helped alot but its just 1 part. seeing dr tommorow

thanks for reading,

A lot of people take Adderall in conjunction with an SSRI. I haven't any personal experience with this, but I've read some very positive accounts as well as some that were less so.

The lack of confidence is a common symptom of adult ADHD, as well as a bunch of other things as I'm sure you're aware. The intrusive thoughts more so of OCD, so perhaps have a look at further treatment to control this aspect of it as it can be quite disturbing :(

There are some good doctors around that specialise in adult ADHD and comprehensive screening tests. See your doctor about it. If you are suffering with ADHD, proper treatment could greatly improve the quality of your life. Speak to your doctor about all your concerns. If they don't address them thoroughly and take the time to go through everything with you, find someone else.

yeah thanks. i am dependant on xanax right now after being prescribed for about 4 months now in a row. after the first dose of adderall i felt no need to take it( the xanax), only used it to sleep. the adderall was acting like the xanax in a different way, they both help me focus my intrusive thoughts that cause my depression and that ive trained my brian to act so for years and just getting the help i needed last year.

If Adderall has been so positive for you, I definitely recommend getting screened for ADHD. I'd also make sure you find a doctor that is experienced in treating adult ADHD, and also perhaps looking at getting off that Xanax. Keep up your therapy, and as I mentioned in my last post, find a good doctor that is willing to work with you.

I hope things get better for you <3

yeah thanks alot the hunt is on, hopefully my current one will test me tommorow and i can see whats going on

i was diagnosed with adult adhd after years of trials of me being "depressed" from psychiatrists, and found that all they did was made my condition much worse (SSRI's + benzos)

i finally decided to have myself checked out for adhd, and bingo, i trialed on ritalin which for me was great - mood lift, positive thoughts, no intrusive thoughts and felt good about myself for once in my life - but the comedown was horrible.
since i've been on dexedrine, titrated upwards to 20mg in the morning, 20mg in the afternoon, along with 20mg of buspar at night and have had no tolerance issues whatsoever.

i have only been on these meds for about 10 months now - and i slip up now and then abusing benzos/opiates if i get ahold of them (just because i'm a reckless bastard and have had real issues with them in the past) but honestly, it has helped me immensely in my studies and social life. they have changed me from the depressed, anti-social and at some points suicidal person that i was, to a much happier and brighter person.
