i take around 60-80mg vyvanse when i wake up 8AM along with 10mg Valium,
and perioidically take up to 25mg Valium a day. Is it safe to mix in Klonopin say 0.5mg?

@paranoid android made a good point. Benzodiazepines definitely have their differences that differentiate them from one another. However, Clonazepam (Klonopin) and Diazepam (Valium) are not radically different in their effects. A long-term user will be able to describe the minute differences. I would just call them both Benzodiazepines to make it easy.

10mg Diazepam is approximately equal to 0.5mg Clonazepam. That might make it easier for you to visualize your intake.

As far as taking Benzodiazepines with Amphetamines (or central nervous system stimulants in general), there is nothing explicitly dangerous about the practice. What I’m describing is acute usage.

If we are talking about the practice of taking Benzodiazepines every day, that is different. The chronic usage of Benzodiazepines almost inevitably leads to tolerance, diminishing effectiveness and addiction. They are typically not effective when used on a daily basis for longer than a few months (if the dose is relatively low, like your own) or two weeks if the dose is higher.

My advice is to do your best to keep the Benzodiazepine dosages low and as infrequent as possible and you should be fine. If you feel like you need Benzodiazepines, maybe consider taking slightly less stimulant to see how that works for you.

i kinda shot myself in the foot and did things backwards. was trying to taper but kinda went off the rails and went through my valium and then moved onto klonopin.

started around 3.5mg klonopin and am now at around 2.0mg, and only have around 5 days worth left if that.

i do have 0.5mg xanax tablets, quite a few. is it possible to taper with those? i understand i’ve done things completely backwards here, also cut my vyvanse dose down to 20-30mg depending on the day or nothing at all.

all in all been taking some sort of benzo whether it be valium or klonopin since roughly beginning september so 4 months and some change. (around 15-25mg valium and 3-5mg clonazepam.)

Hate to "be that guy" but...

I can't see you not "shooting yourself in the foot" again.

Please read @Keif' Richards post again carefully.

I guess it is possible to taper with the xanax (valium would have been better to taper with as xanax requires extreme self control) - but I would ask @Keif' Richards's advise on this and what steps to take.

Please take care

@shreddedlettuce you're too kind man. I tend to feel like I don't know nothin' about nothin' in this world, so it's always refreshing to hear.

@Alfonso_Camarga it will be less confusing for you to simply look at your "total Benzodiazepine intake" as opposed to say, how much Clonazepam or Diazepam or Alprazolam that you're taking. There are of course differences between them, but for your and my purposes, these differences represent superfluous information at this point.

10mg Diazepam (Valium) = 0.5mg Clonazepam [Clonazepam (Klonopin-USA; Rivotril-International)] = 0.5mg Alprazolam (Xanax)

I would go ahead and memorize these factors. It’s just helpful to know these things off-hand when your life is so affected by them. Diazepam is a little funky. Certain people with genetic differences will experience a more potent effect from Diazepam. Shooting from the hip, I’m going to say that these people experience ~2x this potency.

Anyway, now down to the nitty gritty.

Usually, I watch people attempt tapers/sobriety on their own once or twice before I butt in with my bullshit. What I’m going to tell you is that you are more than likely going to need outside help to make this work the way you need it to.

A real Alcoholic, like myself, can easily tell you why an Alcoholic can never “control their drinking”. You see, Alcohol inherently weakens a person’s willpower. One drink makes a second drink very likely and a third drink leaves you totally off to the races. It’s a cool idea; grabbing the bull by the horns and being the master of your own destiny, but it’s not realistic.

Benzodiazepines are no different really. I think it’s unrealistic in general for an addict to have access to their own supply when trying to taper. Nine times out of ten, they are going to mess it up. It’s okay though. This only means that you’re a human being.

What you need is to give up control.

I’m not sure who you have in your life that can help you with this. It has been different people for me at different times. My Mother has, for instance, had control of my prescribed medications. When I started taking Lisdexamfetamine (Vyvanse) for instance. I went into it with good intentions wanting to honestly take the medicine as prescribed. So, I didn’t take the chance at had my mom hold onto it for the first three months. Once I knew I could handle it, I took it back.

I was and still am heavily involved in 12-step recovery. I’ve had multiple sponsors hold my Methadone for me when I needed that. Your brain will scream at you not to relinquish control. Just take it from this junkie, giving up the control gives you freedom. You’re no longer spending hours staring at your medicine bottle, wondering if you should take more, could you take more, what would happen if you did? On, and on and on.

Free your mind by knowing that you have no control, so you might as well just think about something else.

Is there anybody in your life that you would trust with this? If not, you are going to need to look into something like a 5-7 day medical detox. I know you’ve only been doing this for a few months. I don’t want to cause alarm. However, I also know that hindsight is 20/20 and I don’t want you to be rereading this 10 years from now wishing you had made the move.

Tell me the plan and we will go from there. We will still back you even if you try tapering yourself again. I have little confidence in you doing it successfully on your own.
Benzodiazepine dependence starts small at about 2 weeks. This might lead to 24-36 hours of mild discomfort/anxiety. After a month, this might be 72 hours. Now, after 3 months is when you start getting into fucked up territory. This is make or break time in which you can still break away unscathed or continue. After about 6 months, with an assumed increase in dosage/frequency, things begin to calcify.

Once you’re in it with Benzodiazepines, it is not an easy thing to break free from. It does get worse. The longer you spend on them, the more they will take from you and the harder it will be to get off. I’ve seen Benzodiazepines hollow people out, body and mind.

Make the right decision now. Stop fucking around and pick a path out of this using outside help, including us here who will always support you.

i appreciate it and i don’t know you probably don’t remember but you helped me lay out a taper schedule last year some time and it went pretty smooth and i didn’t touch benzos for like a year.. but i wasn’t doing things backwards like i am now an was taking benzos for about half the time i am now at a lower dose. i stay away from xanax completely haven’t taken it for years and have just had a bunch of it but i managed to get a hold of a bit too much valium which is kind of my kryptonite and lost control a bit.

i’ve been in and out of recovery for almost 8 years and have detoxed off sketchy pressed xanax bars at home with like minimal valium and some pot. which was hell and would not like to do things that way again.

there is a program in my city that can provide a slow taper but requires weekly testing and usually a roommate or someone to supervise, this is a good option for me and i do plan to line something up but i can’t miss work or i will likely lose my job so i plan on going in next saturday.

my plan is to off benzos completely i just cant do a 7 day detox without losing my job. so thats the thing. i get im on the cusp of this getting pretty out of hand so thats why im trying to figure it out

as for a plan this week i plan on taking maybe 25% less xanax than the klonopin since im about to run out and basically need to work this week. so 2-2.5mg xanax daily until saturday where i can meet with a addiction specialist and lay out a proper plan.

unless you think its possible to taper on my own, as i have done in the past

no you’re good and no disrespect but if you read my original post you can see that i have admitted that i have done things completely backwards and should have used valium to taper off. i’m fully aware. just wondering if it is possible to taper with xanax as it’s not really something i take but happen to have enough if it is possible

Kief i also owe you a big thanks, you’ve helped me a lot with stupid questions and that taper schedule etc.. and without judgement. so i owe you one and am definitely trying to break free of this garbage i realize the harm it causes and its just playing with fire essentially
