Im sorry i asked this similar question a few days ago but didnt receive a deifinitive answer.

Anyway im currently on 150mg Velafaxine per day, i have a manual labour job which i sometimes struggle with, keeping upto pace and especially feeling very tired and nearly falling asleep (which could be dangerous and could get me sacked)

I have 10x10mg tabs of ritalin. will this help? if so how much should i take? and when should i take it? ie 1 hour before work or earlier or later? at work? if so how often will i need to redose (i have a 8 1/2 hour shift)

Ive never taken Ritalin before although a have a little experience with Amphetamines.

How much Rital will do me good, i dont want it for recreation i just want it to help with my work today.

Help appreciated thanks.

(i have to leave for work in just under 40 minutes)

It's hard to give a definitive answer sometimes, especially as we aren't a medical site (and can't always give an urgent reply sorry!!

Methylphenidate isn't serotinergic so I can't see any reason why it would cause serotonin syndrome, but it does have noradrenergic properties which venlafaxine also has so you may get side effects.. start low and go steady.

This interactions checker didn't find an interaction (doesn't mean there definitely isn't one)

If you are taking venlafaxine XR then the timing of the ritalin isn't so important as you will have a fairly constant blood-concentration of venlafaxine throughout the day..

There should be no dangerous interaction between these two. It is possible that venlafaxine could reduce the effects of methylphenidate as venlafaxine acts as a norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor. However, there is little anecdotal evidence about this combination, so start carefully just to be on the safe side for some idiosyncronatic reaction. If it feels fine, you can up the dose.
