How can so much happiness bring such sadness when it’s through?
You’d think my dog just died by the look on my face,
when in reality, it is neither a look of resentment nor remorse; pain nor discomfort.
It’s not an expression of sadness for what is,
but perhaps sadness for what is not.
It’s more an indication of the pleasure that can be shared in such a short moments’ time,
and how a friendship can continue to grow stronger with each passing moment.
And with the magic now subsided, it is suddenly clear
that the true sadness, for me, is that when I shed a tear, you won’t be here to comfort me.
But somehow, as I look at your picture, and think to you ‘Good night,’ a smile comes across my face.
And now when I cry, I know it’s not because I’m so sad - but because I had never been so happy before.
