Sad Song

Location
wherever the wind blows me
This is for someone I thought
I might have known once.
She took me to the movies
and we felt awkward,
as if we were on the screen,
not the bad actors.

She told me she was like a song
I liked,
I still like.
I still wonder what she's doing,
who she's with,
if she still feels
like that sad song I like.

She used to say I was crazy.
She didn't even really like that song,
she just asked me
what I thought it meant-
She thought she was like my explanation.
I guess she felt like a sad song
but I didn't think my explanation was sad,
just the song.

Once I thought I knew a girl
and THAT is a sad, sad song.

She passed
in and out of my life
as easily as a slow refrain.
I don't think I actually
cared for her the way I pretended,
but I liked the song...
and she said she was just like it.

It was a long time ago,
but I still hear the song form time to time.
I don't know if I knew her,
but the sound of her song,
I will NEVER forget.

I thought I knew a sad girl,
but maybe it was always the song.

Very nice poem.

(And in regards to what you wrote: I've come to believe that sometimes the melody of the moment is all that matters... for it's the melodies that truly animate us... even if you find you might really just be singing to yourself...)
