I'm in russia at the moment and I tried to access erowid, only to find out its on a government blacklist. I then proceded to find videos by a viligante group called "anti-narcotic youth spetsnaz" where they raid and beatup drug dealers.

What the fuck!? That is crazy. I wanted to know how hard it is to find drugs in russia and to what extent is that representative of public opinion? A couple of years ago I saw loads of anti-heroin adds on TV and I assumed it must be because the heroin epedemic was getting too bad. However about the same time I found out weed was decriminalised which for an authoritarian traditional country like russia is very weird, I'm presuming this was in an attempt to get people start doing weed over heroin?

What can you find in russia? I've heard ghb is apperently extremely plentiful whilst in the UK it is literally nowhere to be found.

GHB is controlled in the UK (now) but I'm willing to bet there is a litre or two (or should that be 1 or 2 kg?) kicking around somewhere :D

Is that guy in the bottom video a drug dealer or a drug user? He didn't look like he had much on him. This is pretty cruel.

Russia truly is still living in the 40's or 50's. This doesn't surprise me given their treatment of anyone with a slight tan or homosexual.

Russia's right-wing political landscape is becoming increasingly radical. The Orthodox Christians are gaining more and more power every year, as reflected by the homophobic laws being passed. You can now have your home raided by police if you're gay. It's unbelieveable.

The kind of vigiliante justice in the OP videos is being given the silent nod by authorities because it fits in with the ideology of the new regime.

I would not want to be a minority or liberal thinker in Russia right now.

When you have the biggest HEroin use in Europe, Meth, krokodil & a system that's totally corrupt what do you expect?

One of my ex's lived over there for a few years & said it was a total hell but this was just after it had turned from being a communist state, Russian culture has always been of interest to me but the people are savage & as a general rule as tough as Kevlar.

My parents lived in the USSR and moved as soon as the soviet union broke apart because everything instantly became super corrupt. I watched a documentary a couple of years ago about a vigilante who would hang around waiting to get hassled or mugged and then beat the crap out of his attackers with a metal spiked club. He did this because whilst he was in the army his fiance was raped by a gang of youths one of who was a policemans son and so even though he was caught nothing was done about it. From what my parents tell me it's become a much worse place from capitalism, the government is still authoritarian, the only difference now is they now no longer do it with the aim of providing a better quality of living. It's unfortunate that they seem to have taken the worst from both socio-economic systems :/

Though never seen the country first hand I can't comment fully, I can only go on what i've heard from others & what i've read & seen on TV but I would agree with you.
In my view the place sounds like an open market for anything from drugs, people, weapons etc (Cough Viktor Anatolyevich Bout)

Hey now im russian mostly and iant no savage haha :P I wasnt born there but i know alot about the culture and all. THe big citys like Moscow, the people there are pissed off and very rude. RUssians are a bit hypocrite, because they talk shit and all about drugs, while they down liters of vodka. My grandparents are like that. Oh, PurpleKush1, youre such a drug addict blablabla while the mofo is drinking 24 beers everynite lol. Alot of people in RUssia are very close minded on drugs and Homosexuality and other things and thats fucked up. The corruption is insane too. But i didnt know people were that insane as in these videos. I hope the drug dealers regroup and beat them the fuck up :)

As I've said in the past, but nae cunt pays any attention, Russia / USSR was never "communist". I'm not just being idealist or revising history; the Communist Party's official line, Lenin's own writings and any informed independent analysis make it clear that what they had was "State Capitalism" - the state controlled the means of production, not the workers - and Lenin's idea was that Russia was not ready for a communist revolution, so the dictatorship of the CP was supposed to be a "holding position" while the more "socially advanced" countries of Western Europe followed their lead and had their revolutions. Only then, according to Lenin, would communism be possible in the USSR.

Of course what it really proved is that "achieving communism by seizing the apparatus of the State" is a fantasy. The means of revolution prefigure the ends. Anarchist-Communism or Death!!

No, but you're a moron! :D

(just kidding Droppersneck, I know this stuff is a bit of a headfuck)

Just noticed your location - Portland is a lovely city. The bus drivers are the most polite and helpful I've encountered anywhere ever.

Sorry, you've stepped beyond the limits of my cultural sphere. I've heard of Phish but that's it. Are they a guitar band? I know more about Fish, he comes from my old neck of the woods.

OK, well I'm sure it won't be mandatory, but I think full communism will at the very least permit that sort of musical entertainment. I doubt the likes of Robin Thicke groupies will avoid the salt mines, though.

I think things have improved a tad over the years, and there is bad apples in every barrel as they say.
