RUSSIA'S parliament is considering legislation that would make talking about recreational drugs in public punishable by up to two years in prison.

THE draft legislation resembles the so-called gay propaganda law of 2013, in that it would effectively outlaw public discussions of the topic.

The draft's current wording, preliminarily approved by parliament, is so vague that it forbids the public from naming any narcotic or plant from which one is derived.

The measure seeks to restrict discussions of narcotics to a medical context, as well as prohibit images of illegal drugs in mass media, specifically on the Internet, according to a copy of the text posted on the lower house of parliament's website.

A Russian charity that helps children suffering from cancer denounced the measure on Thursday, saying it would hinder patients from enquiring about painkillers.

"The law should precisely distinguish between promoting narcotic substances and informing patients and doctors about treating pain," the Gift of Life charity said in a statement on its website.

About 300,000 people in Russia are dying from cancer or AIDS and desperately need painkillers, the charity's director Yekaterina Chistyakova said in the statement.

The bill is expected to be further approved by the lower house of parliament next month and then go on to the upper house, the Kommersant newspaper reported.

Well um I can see a whole new vocabulary being created to bypass this problem.

Russia has one of the highest rates of abortion in the fucking world.

Hey Russia, just what in fucking GOD'S NAME is wrong with you???!!!

Sometimes I feel like other countries are just experiments in how badly a government can perform.

Or maybe this is all just a nightmare of a sociology experiment.

You should doubt news about Russia in English and news about the United States in Russian. These two countries are waging wars against each-other through propaganda.

Honestly these countries have more similarities than differences. Both of these two countries heavily manipulate and oppress their citizens and maintain high incarceration rates. Regarding incarceration, truthfully, the United States incarceration rate is much higher than Russia's. Russia has abolished the death penalty and the United States continues (often botched) executions. I wouldn't be in either country if I had another option. To much oppressive manipulation and propaganda.

In soviet Russia....

God wtf is wrong with these ppl that sounds like something out of north Korea when they aren't executing top cabinet members with anti aircraft guns.

Yea, news about Russia are always shown in a spesific light. But that doesn't mean it's not bad - Putin's administration is gearing for a war, Hitler style. Anti-Putin doesn't mean pro-America, superpower politics are never about good of the ordinary man but the gain of the elite. War is always sold to people with beautiful pictures and pure ideals that in reality never are anything but a sugar frosting on a shitcake.

In other words, be careful how you verbally express yourself in Russia, for it may result in a 2 year stint in some Siberian slammer at the edge of civilization. But please feel free to continue with the hate speech towards the LGBT community without any risk of prosecution.

Just when I thought drug war-related criminal offenses couldn't get any more irrational, my laptop screen is graced with this Ruski caca.

You must call me Misha when you fuck me in the asshole.

(hope that wasn't too inappropriate and off topic; there is any English bastardization of a Russian word there at least)

I was watching a TV show on the worst prisons in the world (well not counting secret prisons and stuff) but there is this one in russia, Siberia iirc, but it has a black dolhpin statue out front that the convicts carved. You are on camera 24 7 you're blindfolded when taken places so you can't memorize the layout, and lastly they make the prisoners walk bent over. That sounds fucking horrible. Or being in so.e Brazilian prison with ten ppl to a small ass cell.

^ I think I caught that program 2-3 years ago, iirc they also had like 3 layers of motion sensor equipped tall fences surrounding the premises and the place is patrolled by heavily armed guards accompanied by German Shepherds or Dobermans. Russians don't fuck about when it comes to meting out punishment...

These laws are fucking ridiculously draconian, but it is hard to imagine how they could enforce them on a large scale, I imagine their main purpose is to supply the powers that be with another excuse to lock up political dissidents and the like.

Putin's administration is gearing for a war, Hitler style.

I looked because you mentioned this. The most aggressive waring nation on the planet is the United States.
Deaths in the United Sates conflict in Iraq >600,000.
Deaths in Russia's Ukraine conflict ~6,000.

In the past few years the United States has waged war in Afghanistan, Iran, Iraq, and Syria. The most violent nation on the planet is the United States.

Both of these statistics probably aren't accurate. If I could read Russian I think they'd have higher Iraq numbers and lower Ukraine numbers. Though every statistic agrees the United States has the most people in internment camps and murdered the most humans in recent years.
