I very rarely drink. The only times I do is when I see my brother which is about 3x a year. Normally once every 4ish months. So that means I drink once every four months.

I used to drink semi-heavily, but who doesn't during high school. (21 now) Rum was ALWAYS my first choice. I hated all other liquors. Could drink beer but hated how much liquid it took to get drunk.

Well, 2x ago me and my bro killed a fifth of rum (40 percent) and I took probably..12-13 shots. All within a two hour period. I wasn't even noticeable tipsy. Just a tiny bit buzzed.

Fast forward to the last time, we killed a fifth of tequila (40 percent) and again, I took probably 12ish shots. Also around 2ish hours. I got absolutely HAMMERED..I was puking blood the entire next day.

I understand tequila gets a good deal of people more fucked up than other alcohols, but that can't be the only issue. With absolutely zero alky tolerance 12-13 shots of rum should definitely get me drunk..Hell 6 shots used to get me beyond tipsy 10 shots for drunk drunk back in the day.

Anyone know why?

Um Acute alcohol poisoning?

Well, thats definitely a possibility with the tequila but its similar with other alcohol too..I can get drunk off vodka but still not off rum. It makes no sense to me, I feel like its physically impossible that one type of alcohol can get me drunk when rum can't.

1) Someone had been sippin' outta the bottle in secret and filling it up with water to level up the amount of liquid.
2) You got ripped off on some quality "rum"
3) Your rum was spiced with speed or some other stimulant so you didn't feel it
4) Bullshit

Only explanations I can think of.

You could found a religion complete with fabulous illustrations and a Holy Book based on all the myths around drinking, and while there are a few variables that actually do affect how drunk/hungover you get from drinking whatever, it all usually comes down to pretty simple chemistry: it's the amount and strength of the alcohol that gets you fucked.
Stomach contents and (de)hydration have a part to play but I will in no way believe that they could make the difference between a tiny buzz and being shitface-plastered off 12 shots in 2 hours, so I think chances are the "rum" was not all it was meant to be.

I guess it IS also possible that it was legit, but a combination of some of the above - ie. hydration, food, and your "probably... 12ish" estimates being conservative with the tequila and excessive with the rum - could lead to such a result, but I find it unlikely. So yeah. Cheap Mexican counterfeit, your brother covering up his alcoholism or speed in your rum. Take your pick.

hopefully you drank something red and forgot about it.

Unfortunately I did not. It started as yellowish orangish foamy type liquid then after about 2 of those it was just a red liquid that tasted like blood.

And to everyone saying to stop drinking. I only drink 3-4x a year..and I've only puked blood that ONE time. Its not like im a crazy alcoholic.

P.S. I don't remember but I do dope off and on. I could have done dope that day I had the rum, but even if I did that should enhance it right? Definitely not diminish its effects.

Opiods definitely would not dull the effect.

Honestly the likelihood is just you paced yourself differently. If you drank slower that time and didn't rush to get drunk then you'd get away with a lot more, I have an incredibly low alcohol tolerance even now but I can still drink 1L of rum in a night if I pace myself, versus just a few shots getting me really drunk if I drink too fast.

^ this, or maybe you'd eaten differently, or were more/less tired.. or someone watered down your rum.

As an aside, whether you're a heavy drinker or not, if you are vomiting blood should always get it checked out by a doctor. If it's bright blood it could be a tear where your gullet joins your stomach (a Mallory-Weiss tear) which usually heals itself, but it could also be bleeding from your stomach lining or an ulcer which would require urgent treatment.

The whole vomiting blood after drinking thing is a sign that you're drinking too much. A few years ago I used to drink much more than I do now, and it was always liquor. Well, one night I drank a 750mL bottle of 100 proof vodka over the course of 2-3 hours, along with some...you guessed it, rum.

Was vomiting blood for a good part of the rest of the day, I ended up calling the university's student health clinic on-call nurse for advice. They told me the exact same thing that effie said above, and that I needed to either stop drinking completely, or really reduce my intake, as continued heavy use would cause serious stomach problems (ulcers), but if this was a one-time act of stupidity on my part, my stomach would more than likely heal itself and I would have learned my lesson (and boy did I learn my lesson).

Drinking large amounts of high-proof alcohol is very bad for your stomach, and ulcers are very bad news. Be safe.

if your telling the truth I agree with the guy above. You were on speed somehow. Rum was watered down. Your full of it.
I used be a real drinker I can tell you that amount would get anyone drunk. Even a hardcore drinker would of got drunk.

Btw .. drinking is bad. Over drinking is stupid and dang. maybe you should stop
