"Rules" in fashion and makeup

I am with agree-ance with BeatleBot about the bra deal! I think its perfectly fine to show your bra straps! and (gasp) I wear regular bras with tube tops all the time... I think it looks just fine. To me, they're the same as any other strap such as tank top straps.. but whatever. What gets me tho, is when a girl's bra is riding up in the back and that part is showing out of her shirt. For whatever reason that does seem tacky. :\

The main Idea of fashion is to express yourself however possible AND still look good/practical... Although I believe everything has been done before, so its up to us to BLEND different styles into something unique. One thing that irks me is when someone dresses head to toe in a style from certain decade / period of time... to me, it reads costume-y.

Trends I hate:
-Crocs (the ugly-ass gardening shoes)
-Pants with spandex in them
-Spandex pants :D
-Too short shirts even when you're pregnant
-Too short pants unless they're capris or gauchos
-Shirts with catch phrases (barf)
-Team shirts not being worn to/from a sporting event.
-Visible thongs out the top of pants!***
-The "Hot Topic" look.. I really could go on & on about this.
-The "Pac Sun" look.... or basically any head-to-toe outfit that you can immediately tell where it was purchased... Including A&F!

Websites I looove:
www.irregularchoice.co.uk
www.starsandinfinitedarkness.com
www.shopkitson.com
www.paper-doll.com
www.urbanoutfitters.com
www.karmaloop.com
www.bazaaradriatic.com

My friends & I have this idea that it doesn't matter how much something costs (Under $200 haha) as long as you love it......

*** - You're not wearing regular underwear because you dont want your panty lines to show, so why would you go way beyond that and just straight SHOW your underwear?? Its not sexy!! And you're lucky if the next time I see you do it, I dont give you a Wedgie!!

I wanna see! You should post some pics if you do that.

fordee_winks...i have alot of irregular choice shoes, i've never heard anyone else mention them anywhere! aaren't they great though?=D

ew, i really hate the bra straps showing thing. ew ew ew. i've seen girls wear bras that dont match their shirt, and not only can you see straps but you can see the back of the frickin bra. my rule is, if my boobs arent supported by the shirt itself, then i won't wear it unless i have a suitable strapless bra. they're not expensive to invest in and it just looks sleeker. if thongs shouldn't show, then neither should bra straps :D

I find the bra straps peeking out from underneath the shirt straps a turn on, same goes for a little underwear peeking out when a girl bends over (assuming it's nice underwear). Of course the girl has to be attractive otherwise it just looks bad.

I've done black and brown before. The black tends to be my dark charcoal jeans so it isn't true black, but I find they go well with a couple of brown shirts I own. I only do this in the fall.

Yes. Yes indeed. I own 4 pair, and wanting to purchase more! Its an addiction really. My one pair I paid $140 and haven't looked back!! =D I find www.zappos.com has a really great selection too...

I have a pair of jeans that are really comfy and really nice, but they are so low that it's either underwear or ass crack, lol. I usually go with solid black undies with a lace top (I always think it looks nice when people wear jeans and then have a little lace sticking out at the top). If I'm feeling really tacky I might go for a nice g-string, but usually not. Either way it's better than ass crack.

i think the thick ones look like crap. its funny everyone on here says the thin ones look bad. everyone in real life tells me they love my eyebrows and ask me how i get them to look so nice. *shrugs*

Anyways, grr, yall stop with the "OMG yea i love ______ shoes they are so cool and cheap" this aint the thread for that, i believe you are looking for the mega merged fashion thread or the girly thread. that type of talk has no place here, little missys. run along now. ;)

Anyways...

That whole fashoin obsession with brand names and shit is pretty scarey now that my lil sis is 13.....she just turned 13 in june and already she hosted a "purse party" where your friends all come over and buy knockoff designer purses. its really fuckin fucked up. shes worried about the brand of everything she wears already. everything has to be ____ ____ or ________, and she has a knock off prada bag and a knock off coach bag. my mom dont buy her that shit, she uses her own money that she earned from workin. so at least mama aint encouraging it. but still....i was never like that...my other sister was never like that, the bitch is so influcenced by what the media is tellin her to do that she is concerned over this shit without even knowing WHY. its fuckin unreal. the shit is outta control.

that type of shit is somethin i wish i could just get rid of.......thats the type of shit im talkin about here too. people raising their kids to believe that when it comes to clothes only __________ is acceptable and its a rule you have to follow for life. wtf is up with that.

I hear what you're saying, and from my perspective, now, I agree completely. But to be fair I think it's important to look back to the perspective I had when I was 13. I'll admit I wanted everything from A&F or Gap. I don't really think it had much to do with "the media tellin" me what to do as much as it had my friends tellin me what was cool and uncool.

What it all comes down to at that age is feeling accepted. It is probably during this age that feeling "in" is more important than at any other age. You can see this in different ways other than fashion. For example, kids crackin jokes during class, finding the "right" date to the dance, sitting at the 'cool' table during lunch, 'cliques' and so forth.

A lot of the teenagers who went through this "acceptance" period simply move past it, thus it is a phase. Others, sure, will probably always love getting expensive things (but perhaps it shifts to other reasons...).

Anyway, I'm just saying that a lot of people who were once obsessed with such things realize after jr. high or high school is over that it doesn't really matter if others think you're "cool" or "fashionable". I know, because I'm one of those 'people'.

Another thing, I really don't think this is getting "out of control" because when I was 13 or so and told my mom I wanted the brands she would just laugh and list off the clothes that you had to have when she was young. She doesn't care about making sure her clothes are 'fashion-forward' anymore and neither do I. What I'm trying to point out from this is there is a pattern to this behavior and I really don't think it's just new-age kids getting out of control. It's been going on for decades.

na just the obsession the kid has is fuckin inasne. my mom raised us to not be like that at all. and i never really gave 2 shits i just let all the teasin and bustin roll off my back. i never had brand name clothes unless salvation army counts as a brand. my sister, its like she came from some other planet or somethin. maybe thats why i see it like that but im sure that this trend aint nothin new. well, its prolly also cuz she grew up her whole life where i live at now, where i was raised & exposed to a totally different life when i was a kid. by the time she was born shit was different so i guess she got more of a sheltered view of the world cuz she lived here her whole life. anyways, i guess youre right, the whole brand obsession aint new, more like its new to me, cuz i never known people like that and im extremely suprised that someone in my family would be that way.
i say outta control cuz to me, i guess it is. to other pppl i guess its normal. it just bugs me out , cuz i m hoping she dont become one of "those" girls if you get me. you know. that OC laguna beach crap. (i never seen these shows. but the commercials and talkin is enough for me to understand what its about and shes headed right up that alley.)

whoa, its lacey talkin bout her sister time. lemme get off that, im just sayin, who puts these ideas in young ppls heads if it aint the media? their friends? but, where did their friends get those ideas? PROLLY THEIR MOTHERS......their mothers who follow the all-consuming "RULES" that the whole thread is about...hmm..

Peer pressure. You arent with her during school hours are ya? You don't know.
I think you should give your sister the benefit of the doubt...she's only 13 ffs.

the #1 thing that bothers me about fashion is the girls who think they have to carry around a $300-400 purse. It just astounds me. Fuckin sheep.

I have a friend who carries purses worth more than the amount of money she can store in them... it's just a PURSE, dammit! Follow me down to the beach area in Barcelona and I'll get you the "same" purse for 10 euro!

Actually, that trend is gaining some popularity, and IMO, it's sorta sexy in that "girl wearing men's clothes" fashion. Instead of wearing lace undies, though, the girls wear men's boxer-briefs or at least some sort of underwear that has an elastic band on the top, and just let it peak out 1 inch. I'm not sure if it's hit the rest of Europe, yet. Has anyone else seen this?

Yea, I think that trend has been around for a while... Not too fond of wearing the boxer briefs myself but it can look hot on some..

It's trendy to not like trends ;)

I love clothes but hate fashion and get peeved when all the stuff i hunt for hours in op shops cos they have original patterns and styles become part of mainstream fashion. Then i think "hrmm well at least i can find all the stuff i like in my size now!" but then think "but now i'll just blend in with the other sheep" and then feel like i'm being all elite thinking i'm so damn unique and special
