I was wondering if anyone here has tried using Rozerem?
*for its intended purposes as a sleep aid; I don't know if it has a single recreational use outside of sleep stuff.

I was curious as it is the only non RX sleep med (besides antihistamines and herbal stuff).

I have taken and still sometimes do take Melatonin 1-3mg. I've had mixed results form that so I am weary about Rozerem.

The main reason I haven't looked into it is because of its price being a new drug and all (and me being a broke grad student with minimal health insurance)

This study shows a reduction in time to fall asleep with Rozerem
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC1978328/?tool=pmcentrez

But I am not well versed in judging how to trust studies like these; any input would be appreciated!

For those who do not know what Rozerem is:
It is the brand name for the chemical Rameltoen

"Ramelteon is a highly selective melatonin MT1 and MT2 receptor agonist, with no appreciable affinity for the GABA receptor complex or receptors that bind neuropeptides, cytokines, opioids, dopamine or serotonin"
Ramelteon A Review of Its Use in Insomnia by Dene Simpson and Monique P. Curran

It's not very new... been around about four or five years if not more I think. And no, it isn't recreational, it just makes you tired.

It is mainly used for those who have trouble just falling asleep, not staying asleep, kinda like ambien. It really depends on what you need it for.

i kno wits an old thread but i jst read this about it.....gotta love it

.........."Ramelteon is approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for long-term use.".............

........."Ramelteon caused hyperprolactinaemia two to three times more often than placebo in clinical trials".........

........."Studies of rats and mice showed a dose-dependent increase in cancer."..........

........."Ramelteon was teratogenic in rats".............

........."The long-term safety in humans is unknown".......
