Roommate not paying Utilities- Cutting off Internet

then, what would you recommend I do?

i do feel bad that I cut off his internet but he doesn't need to be freeloading off me. If I am not strict now, then I feel he is going to continue to take advantage of this situation in the future.

No. Radio shack + ATT equals subsidized galaxy phones that go for free. Have to do it in store though.

uh i don't know anything about a family plan/phones. We dont' have a house phone and we both have seperate cell carriers so I don't know how that would work.

I'm not trolling. When things were getting hard with people owing me money, I had all those assholes out doing this. If you don't like the way several thousand dollars looks, by all means dismiss my idea.

A family plan is where you sign one contract for multiple phones (5). No money up front, product in hand. Figure it out now or wait until this guy drains you.

Well if he doesn't really need a place to live, I guess he can say no. Or he can go get you your money some other way.

He obviously thinks, "fuck that guy" when you ask him for money, so ime the best way to play it is to squeeze him for all he's worth and let the blowback fall on him.

and why would my roommate want to sign up for 5 cell phones?

I too don't understand the whole phone bit, but why don't you try and work out a deal with your roommate, where instead of him giving you $100 in one lump-sum, he gives you, say $25 a week. Or, if he really is just a freeloader with truly no ambition to pay you back, tell him to GTFO.

i think few people here - myself included - are missing something. how does their signing up for a phone translate into several thousand dollars for you?

i have no idea, theres no way hes going to sign up for a cell phone and there is no way im going to force him to sign a contract for five phones. that sounds pretty far-fetched. to be honest, i don't want to start a war between me and him. I talked to my parents who have a bunch of lawyer friends and I came up w/ a plan. I'm going to give him his internet back so he's not angry with me (left the password out on the coffee table since I rarely see this guy). I'm going to take him to small claims court when he moves out. So far he has paid all the rent and that is the most crucial part. I rather him just pay the rent even if he cant pay the utilities because that leaves me in a better financial position still.

All I need to do now is some investigating. I would like to get his home address and his employer's info for when I might have to go to court. a social security number would be nice too....

p.s. I absolutely DESPISE situations like this. It can't work out well for either party and it just stresses everyone out.

Alright, I should have broken it all the way down the first time.

Step 1: Friend goes to store, applies with AT&T for a family plan.

Step 2: Once approved, he has 5 lines and selects the phones you instruct him to.
a.) SIM phones net the highest resale value (AT&T, T-Mobile)
b.) Galaxy phones move the fastest (12 minutes is my record for all 5)
c.) To get a phone with the above qualities for free, this must be done at a third party retailer

Step 3: Copy the full advertising spread from Amazon for the phone onto your Ebay ad for maximum quality.

Step 4: Sell phones, pay for boxes and ship them out.

Step 5: Now that you have around $1000-$1500 profit, use that money to recruit more people and do it again.

But... if you guys are still in that situation where it's easy to fall back on parents, no need to go ruining his financial life just yet. He's just going to tell his mom and dad on you if you get him like this. I can'[t stand people in this time in life who can't seem to manage to come up with money for basic necessities. They either need to get on the phone with their mom and dad or start borrowing against their credit rating via phones or straight credit cards.

With that attitude, of course there's no way he's going to sign a contract for 5 phones. It really doesn't matter how you get the money, but if you're already thinking about illegally obtaining his personal information then I don't get what your issue is with stepping on his neck a little bit and making him an offer to cover his debts if he'll just do you a "small favor."
