Rolling Stone names Hendrix best guitarist ever

It's refreshing to click on a thread like this and see that my gut reaction has been pretty much the standard response. (Lists are a farce, Jimi was a master showman, etc)
 
i know who my favorite guitar players are

would be cool if the list was 100 guitar players you've never heard of, and we promise you'll like them
 
No one changed the art of guitarrin like Hendrix. Of course he wasn't the best technically, but he was so good that he changed the game forever, in a very good way.
 
Satriani is cool for Top Gun style guitaring....god? I guess anyone with a passable level of musical talent can be considered god to someone

lol - in your humble opinion! what's less objective than your opinion?

if hendrix is the best guitar player objectively then it must be measurable - i.e. there must be a way to quantify his greatness so that it can be measured against the greatness of others and be proven the greatest.

can you tell me how you would even begin to measure the quality or greatness of somebody's guitar playing 100% objectively?

Even though I agree with the general sentiment of that post you quoted, it was clearly in need of a good fucking up.
 
Way too heavily slanted towards "classic rock" for my taste but then again, look at the source. All the named deserve to be on the list but there are so many equally important guitarists who got overlooked.

You never heard about the Plaster casters? Legendary among rock stars of the 60s and 70s. Jimi Hendrix broke the mold though, I'm pretty sure his is the record.
It's objective enough.

They'd take girls who would've otherwise been groupies and got the rock star hard, then made a plaster cast, then replicated and sold the replicas of the actual penis molds for a healthy profit. The most enterprising groupies ever, possibly.

They also did casts of the boobs of some leading ladies and other famous women.
 
Hendrix was one of the best in history but to say he's the best in history while omitting chaps like Les Paul, Carl Perkins, Mark Knopfler, or Sonny Landreth is almost criminal.
 
This is a Rolling Stone list.
I think they had one a few month ago on their website where they named Green Day the best punk band of all time.
Pretty much proof they don't have a clue.
 
I wouldn't call Hendrix the best guitarist ever but such is my opinion. I hate rolling stone fuck they suck.

And bucket head should have been on that list and Peter Green should have been higher.
