Rolling after stopping SSRI - Questions

Hi. After a lot of conflict and arguing, I was finally able to stop taking my SSRI (specifically duloxetine/Cymbalta). Was on about 60mg a day for about the past year. Before that, it was (20mg? Maybe 40) citalopram/Celexa for perhaps a little under a year.

Was able to find a scientific journal article on the fact that SSRI use can cause brain damage (tardive dysphoria) and showed it to my mother. Unfortunately, have been under her care and supervision due to an injury, but will soon be moving back out. She pretty much forced me using threats of punishment and calling me suicidal.

Anyway, I know that SSRI?s will pretty much completely diminish any effects from ingesting serotonin-depleting agents such as MDMA.

After a bit of research, I?m hearing that a person who has been taking an SSRI for a long time can actually never roll again :-(

My first question is: how long would a person have to have been taking an SSRI for these drugs to stop working ever again?

Second question is: how long would a person want to wait after stopping an SSRI to roll and have complete effects? I saw a few people suggest 5 x the half-life + a few days; the half-life of duloxetine is only 12-18 hours. Others suggest a month or more.

Thanks for any info on the subject!

I was on sertraline for about 2 years. I had used MDMA before taking sertraline so I am able to compare before and after.

About 2 months after stopping sertraline I tried MDMA again, it worked fine and it still does for me. The only difference I have noticed is I now get mild brain zaps for a day or two after MDMA which I never had before my course of anti depressants, I cannot prove the two are related however. Taking an SSRI previously doesn't seem to have affected my experiences with MDMA in the long term but that is just my personal circumstances.

Whilst the SSRI may be out of your blood stream quickly after stopping taking them your brain chemistry may be slower to return to normal. My advice, don't be in a rush and give it a couple of months and take it slow! Coming off anti depressants isn't always easy, I was careful to make sure I was 'ok' before dipping my toe into MDMA again.

Well, if anyone is curious, I did trip well on some 4-AcO-DMT, so that makes me feel like the MDA I Have is gonna work...

Won?t get to try the MDA until mid Feb

4-AcO-DMT affects your brain differently than 3,4-MDMA, so do not take your experience with it as a predictor of your future response to MDMA.
IMO you should wait at least 3-months between SSRI and MDMA ...6-months preferably.

Also beware, that there is a bad "Mongy" MDMA on the market today, which is different from the MDMA in the past. You can recognize it by observing your pupils ( they do not dilate fully with it, even at doses above > 120mg ).
See this thread for details.

This, immediately after coming off of anti-depressants is not necessarily the best time to be using psychoactive drugs. People are certainly able to roll again after antidepressants, but its best to wait until things have really cleared out of your system.

Yeah, definitely different mechanisms; I guess I?m hoping that if the tyrptamine works okay, the SSRI must be completely cleared out of me, and so the mda will work, too. Probably not exactly how it works, but still a good thing.

Also, I was more-or-less forced to go on the ssri?s; I don?t consider myself depressed and I don?t think SSRI would do any good if I was. Long story short I was injured, had a bout of long-term amnesia, and when I returned to myself, it was too late to refuse to start SSRI. Mother pretty much had legal control over what brain-damaging drugs she wanted to make me put in my body.

Thanks, you all
