i was wondering whether anyone had pilled/chemed while on a course of roaccutane.
My friends and I have a suspicion that the roaccutane stopped working when we sucumbed to the pleasure of pilling. I am wondering whether we could be right.

Taking E's on Roaccutane may be an added stress to the liver...i dunno? seeing that the Roaccutane course is sort of testing out the liver....I don't think that E would reduce the success of the treatment. The only thing that I think that could reduce its effectiveness is making oneself tired which disrupts the balance of hormones being produced by the body...and they are the main cause of these problems.

I am no doctor but I have had a course of that long b4 E.
Hope that helps...sort of

I pilled (and tripped and g'd and n2o'd)quite heavily throughout the whole course of Roaccutane and the only thing that I noticed could have gone differently was the time my skin to took respond. Apparently I was a slow responder, but I've been off it for a month or so now, and I'm fine.
I never got sick, and I made sure I had regular liver testing. I'm going back in a few weeks and my doctor will give me the all clear.
So, yeah..you should be right, but make sure you keep yoursewlf in check. Some of the other side effects are horrible enough without going through anything with your liver.
Cheers,
mona.

Excuse the stupid question, but what the hell is roaccutane? is it a liver function test or something similar? Just curious.

Roaccutane is medication which is basically Isotretinoin (sp?)sort of like a REALLY stong version of Vitamin A.
It's used for people with skin problems. Basically a skin specialist will give you a really high dosage of this stuff which dries out every single oil producing gland in your body so that your skin can recover (oils lead to infection etc) blah blah.. It's a pretty hard core drug which has full on side effects (headaches, nausea, dry eyes, dry skin, really dry lips, bit of hairloss..not like major amounts but it falls out more than usual AND if you fall pregnant when you're on the stuff you have to have an abortion because babies can be born with MAJOR birth defects like having no brain...) hardcore to say the least.
Anyway, the drug is hard on your liver because your liver is what filters the poisons out of your blood, Roaccutane is like a poison, so it, combined with pills can put strain on your liver, which is why it's so important to have tests. I never told my doctor about taking pills, a) because it never came up (duh) and b) I actually looked for info on the web. www.ecstasy.org had something about it in the FAQ's.
Hope that cleared it up.

Thanks mona.
I made sure that everything was ok with my liver whilst on it the first time round. I'll go check out the site.

Glittergrrl..you were on it once before? Do you mind if I ask why you have to go back on it?

It didn't clear up my acne (which isn't that bad). The doc said that I must have been in the 2% for whom roaccutane does not work the first time. So here i go again....

Thanks for the advice, my brother has bad acne so I might mention it to him to look into.

I'm on roaccutane,,,fuck it's a harsh drug.
Your supposed to have it with food cause it can burn through your stomach or whatever. I also find that it makes your stomach feel very empty, whether it makes the food digest quicker or just reacts with your stomach strangly i dunno. I had a problem with it at Heresy (in perth). I'd eaten well all day then at about 3pm i had my roccautane tablet (just one). No side effects but then it hit about 2am and my stomach was screaming gurgling noises at me and it felt pretty darn empty. I lost all energy about an hour later and spent the rest of the night sitting down which is very unusual for me. Moral of the story,, don't have roccutane before a rave.

I hardly ever used to have mine on the weekends, just because I never ate anything. The reason you're supposed to take them with food is because it's a drug that is fat soluble. ie, I think fat helps break it down in your stomach..if it won't break down it leaves you feeling nauseous. I only ever suffered this sick feeling a few times and sort of learnt from it too...

I had roaccutane many years ago, and it sounds like it hasnt changed one little bit.
Please just remember that this drug can be very harsh on your body, especially your liver.
I had this treatment in my 20's and it was great for a couple of years, but then back it came. I too am in that 2% of people, but it also has alot to do with being a female and having hormones.
When I go out and have a pill my skin breaks out all the time, and I have noticed that I am not the only one.
I had a choice to have a second treatment, but have decided to have Glycloric treatments at the beautician instead and my skin is fantastic. So if you are looking for a different alternative then see a beautician that specialises in Glycloric
peels from Clarins.
Treatments are about $200 for 6 and usually done twice a week for 3 weeks and the everyday products will cost you about $150, this is a Glycloric cream and moisturiser, but it will last you 8 to 10 months.
My skin now has a beutiful glow because its all new skin and my pores dont get blocked.
They also have a light all over cover foundation that will last 12 months and it is designed to not block your pores and looks natural and has great coverage.
Maybe try this before the second treatment as I think that there are other alternatives.
By the way I'm 33 years old and acne has been with me all my life until now.

Well, I've been off it for about 2 months now, and I'm going back for another appointment soon. My skin is looking pretty good and I don't break out from pills at all, if anything my skin is clearer the day after (even though it looks horrible and sallow

)
Anyway, you guys are freaking me out now, because it really does look as though it's on it's way to recovery...the scarring is only really light and i can;t see myself having to go back on it.
As for facials and stuff, I've been doing shit like that since I was about 15 and yeah they worked in the short term but did nothing in the long term... so now I just have to wait a bit more until I can start having one at least once a month..the peels are WAY too strong to be doing if you've only just finished.
