Hello, I've had a pretty hard time determining a dosage to start off with Ritalin. I have 5 20mg pills and am set to get tested for ADHD within a week. I however do not want to fail my classes as I cannot concentrate on well, anything. This has always been a problem I suppose, I never did homework in high school but was able to pass exams with flying colors. I'm now a third year college student and my class load is so hard that sheer intellect cannot pass a class by itself as I need to pay attention in class and do homework. My friend let me try 5 of these 20mg pills and I'm not sure if 20mg is too much to study with as I dont want to get so high that I just focus on not studying haha. I take MDMA on around a monthy basis so I guess I have some sort of amp tolerence. Can anyone steer me in the right direction. He told me 20mg should do and I just want to be sure.

Start off with 10 or 15mg, 20mg will do the trick, but you don't want to use too much if you don't know the lower doses work too.
 
I've been on methylphenidate ir (ritalin) for about 7 years now. I can tell you that the results one gets from this drug is very dose depent. For example, when we were trying to find my proper dose, I found that 10mg was not enough. We tried 15mg and I felt really jittery and paranoid. I figured that this must not be the drug for me....However, When I told my psychiatrist about this he said it's very common when one is taking too low a dose to feel as though they'd taken too much. So we tried 20mg, and I have been on that same dose ever since.
My point is NOT that you should try and take more than 10 milligrams...I think that's a perfect place to start. Just realize that if you and your Dr. decide this is the right medication for you, it can take lots of trial and error to find the amount that's right for you.
Anyway, one way to look at the pills you've acquired is this: You can always take more than 10mg on the second try if you find it to be insufficient. If you take 20mg and it's too much, there's no going back. Better to be safe than sorry :)
 
Ok. Well today I just took one 20mg pill and It lasted around 4-5 hours. I really liked it, for the first time in what felt like forever I didn't really want to fidget and could actually think without bouncing 10 different things around my head at the same time. Tomorrow I have a very long day of classes, I am going to split my 20mg pill into two and take 10mg to see if that will be sufficient for a few hours then take 10mg about 4 hours later.
 
A dose of even 5 mg should render a good deal of therapeutic effects, but not necessarily recreational. I do not know if the Ritalin is IR, or not, though, and so don't know about splitting the tablets. If they are IR, you can split them. I would try quartering them, so you do get doses of 5 mg in each quarter, and use 5 mg every two to four hours as needed w/o exceeding 20 mg Ritalin in a day for best result, so to keep tolerance as low as possible. Ritalin (methylphenidate) is not an amphetamine, though - just so you know, and is more cocaine-like in structure, and effect, to a degree, with a shorter half-life than amphetamines, and generally regarded as less recreational than amphetamines, too, with a swifter comedown. Some say methylphenidate lacks that amphetamine euphoria - they are different. Just keep that in mind, and know what drugs you are doing to be as safe as possible.
 
Thanks for the advice. They are IR, I am aware that MPH is not an amp I was just saying so for the sake of simplicity since I believe the two structures are slightly cross tolerant
 
When I used to abuse ritalin, I started off the night-day night with about 50mgs insuffilated and follow that up with 40-50mgs ins. till all 450mgs were gone. That is a high dose for someone that it not used to them. I seem to have a natural tolerance to stims. Tried ADDeral ONE time! Sniffed 340mgs over 11hrs and I should have went to ER. My heartrate dropped to 42bpm and BP was 48/72. that was after doing 400 mgs ! Will NEVER touch Adderall again but I do miss a ritalin binge!
