Sorry if this belongs elsewhere, feel free to move it if it does.

I was prescribed Ritalin a couple of weeks ago after explaining my lack of energy, concentration, and motivation to my general doc. My doc suggested I take 10mg 3 times a day, but I found that after the 2nd day, there were no noticeable effects. At first I chalked it up to maybe having too much acidic drink/food in my stomach, so the next day I took 20mg on an empty stomach. Again, no noticeable effects so the next day I did the same with 30mg and there were some weak effects. Finally I get to 40mg the next day and it seems to be an effective dose, but the side effects aren't worth taking it at that high of a dose, not to mention it lasting only an hour or so.

Do you guys think I would have a case to tell this to my doctor to get something like Adderall or Vyvanse next? My psychiatrist had mentioned these meds before I stopped seeing her (and he referred me to her), so I think I might mention that as well. I just don't want my doc to think I'm prescription shopping or something.

Thanks

IMO ritalin is pretty strong...and thats a pretty high starter dose. Idk maybe go back to your doc and tell her it's not working? Adderall is stronger than ritalin tho, I used to be prescribed the 10mg IRs and I would feel effects off them.. Sometimes I'd take like 8 at a time and be flying...

I don't see why he'd have a problem prescribing Vyvanse if he'd prescribe you Ritalin. Vyvanse is pretty abuse proof being a pro-drug and all, so I'd imagine your doctor would feel pretty comfortable with that. IME doctors either will prescribe me pretty much any ADD drug I want (besides Desoxyn of course), or none at all. Just say that the ritalin does not work well and makes you feel crappy, IME Methylphenidate (ritalin) is a real shitty drug and makes me just paranoid and anxious as hell.

Unfortunately though, this type of thread is not allowed here on Bluelight as we cannot tell you how to obtain a specific prescription, and can only speculate wether your doctor will switch you to amphetamines instead. Email me if you have any questions, regarding the closure.

Don't forget about Focalin.
However, if I were you, I'd consider asking if I could switch to an amphetamine. (Dex)methylphenidate, like what Znegative stated, sucks. IMHO, (D)MPH "comedowns" feel more like crashes, even when taken non-recreationally...

For some yes. For others no. MPH is the most prescribed ADD medication on the planet and it would not be so if every single person had horrible effects from it... Pretty much the only people who do have horrible effects post about it, and the people who it works great for do not.

Focalin rocks. I get zero side effects from the stuff even at high doses. it is a blast recreationally too...

But back to the original point of this thread. If ritalin isnt working for you, either try focalin or adderall. your doc will give it to you.

methylphenidate is really ddirty and has a harsh comedown. i suggest trying out d-amp (vyvanse, dexedrine, adderall) , i like all 3 better than ritalin because tey are more effective at treating my adhd and dont leave me feeling like shit at the end of the day. vyvanse is cool because it lasts all day and is very steady and smooth; it is the best ER ADD med out on the market IMO. however, vyvanse is only an extended release medication which is a downside because some days it lasts longer than i want it too. adderall is good because it gives me physical energy or more hsycial drive to get out and do things; good for work and getting things done. the extended release version is very janky and sketchy because it will dose dump and is not consistent like vyvanse which has a stead yrlease of the drug. also it tends to have the most side effects like anxiety and jitters out of the 3. dexedrine is good because it is the cheapest and comes in instant release formulas, it pretty much has no comedown for me if u eat and stay hydrated and has the best of both worlds, instant release without being to physically and mentally straining like adderall. however some people dilike it doesnt provide much physical stimulation or a push and is almost smooth sometimes.

hope i helped..
