ritalin/methylphenidate er?

just started taking 20mg a day, and it doesnt really work all that long, maybe 6-8 hrs,
so I usually end up taking 2 a day instead of one, then running out at the end of the month.
is there a way to make the ritalin last longer? w/o taking extra medicine?

Not as far as I know (but I don't know much about methylphenidate) - if it isn't working I would speak to your doctor about it however..

I'm sure your doctor could give you another prescription for a lower dose to take at lunch or during the middle of the day. Also check out other ADD/ADHD meds, I don't understand why so many people are stuck on Ritalin. IMO, there have been many better drugs that have been created since Ritalin that are more effective, last longer, and have less negative side effects. Do some research about switching meds but if you really like Ritalin then talk to your doctor about dosing twice a day. Possibly even taking two doses of 10mg.

biphentin 40mg works well for me and is a brand of xr methylphenidate in canada, you could dose half if it's the bead type granules and dose 10mg each time. Talk to your doc about it, or phone them so they know of your situation and don't think it's you trying to abuse them.

Have you heard of a drug named Concerta? It's like Ritalin XR.

As mentioned in other posts, extended release formulations of methylphenidate do exist. If this is a consistent issue for you, I recommend speaking with your doctor about switching to one of the extended release formulations available.

Have you heard of a drug named Concerta? It's like Ritalin XR.

I was on Concerta at one time in my life when I was switching through many ADHD meds. It made me so damn wired though! I then switched to Stratera, then Risperal because my mom thought I was bipolar (although everyone in my family knew it was actually her that was bipolar ha), then to Adderal, and then a few years later Vyvanse. I love Vyvanse out of all the meds I've tried.
