Ritalin is speed????

alright. so i was chilln at this doods house tonight and he tried telling me takin ritalin (spelling unsure???) is the same as takin speed. he told me for a while he was takin speed and told me to come to his house and he would show me wut speed looks like. i was curious so i went and he pulled out ritalin. he said speed is ritalin... wuts the truth behind that.

ritalin is ritalin, and speed is speed. ritalin is for hyperactive kids, speed is for tweakers. they are not the same thing. but some people say they have similar effects like getting you all hyped up or whatever, but i cant say, ive taken ritalin for fun many times, but never done speed so i woundnt know to compare the two. okee, byes :D
 
Ritalin is what you take when you cant get any speed, actually even then I wouldnt take it.
It makes you edgy & uncomfortable in your own skin, Yuk.
 
Methylfenidate, Dextroamphetamine are techniclly "speed" but I'd just lump them into the category of uppers. Yes it can tweak you out, keep you awake for a long-ass time but the usual dosage is so small in any one perscription you'd be lucky to stay good and fucked-up for more than 24 hours.
Stick to meth. I do my ritalin script for shits n' giggles sure, but a lot of people complain they don't like the buzz of lots o' ritalin. Shortness of breath is a bit irritating when doing to much of the stuff.
But it works like a speed, but it is in fact not methamphetamine.
If you're into it, IV'ing ritalin seems to be a few people I knows hobby.

To me, it feels more like really shitty coke, w/out the fun teeth falling out feel. And as far as IV Rit's go...I've heard that it is quite the rush, but I think that I'll stick to non-needle routes of ingestion, even if that means giving away all the ritalin that I may ever come across.

I used to do Ritalin a *lot*. It's methylphenidate, which is quite speedy (at least for me - but I've never done coke or meth or even amphetamine). I used to crush up about 12 and parachute em and maaaaaaaaaan I'd be tweaked out as all hell, running around needing someone to talk to or talking to myself (at a million miles an hour)... plus it opened my mind quite a bit - used it as a writing/drawing tool. Never found it to be unpleasant at all except for the dry mouth I would get. You build up a shitty ass tolerance, though.
 
Yeah, ritilin is not speed, and people generally don't call it speed. They call it ritalin, or rits. It is a different chemical than speed. It's kinda like if he pulled out some no-doze and said it was speed. Sure they're all stimulants, but ritalin isn't speed, and neither is no-doze. Both of them are much weaker than real speed.

Yes, but methylphenidate is chemically related to the amphetamines, while caffiene is not. So, if you were to call ritalin speed, it could possibly be accurate, as speed is slang, and to any given group of people, a slang word can have many different meanings. So, in theory, speed may very well be ritalin is some social circles.

Speed quite simply refers to amphetamine and possibly methamphetamine. Methcat, cocaine, caffeine, RITALIN are not speed. It has nothing to do with chemical structure method of action in the brain or how it feels. Go show 100 people on the street some ritalin and ask them if its speed. The answer is no because that word simply does not refer to ritalin.
Well if we are actually going to talk about the interesting differences I will add my .02c
So yes it is believe that amphetamine and ritalin work in generally the same way (they both are minor MAOIs, reuptake inhibitors, and resleasers of pre-synaptic nmonoamines from vesicles). They, as others have pointed out, have considerably differnt subjective effects.
I thought the IVing ritalin thing was mostly in combination with opiates or some other drug with a synergistic effect. Also I imagine IVing could feel quite differnt.
Actually it appears the reason for the lower reinforcement/enjoyment capacity of ritalin isn't quite clear. Some studies seem to indicate that while both ritalin and amphetamine increase brain levels of dopamine they do so in differntly in differnt regions. Why this is I have no clue. It could be something to do with differnt ratios of reuptake inhibition vs. reveral. Or it could just be they are distributed differntly in the brain.
As dopamine is reinforcing in some brain regions while generating avoidance behavior in others changing which parts of the brain are affected how much could change the subjective effects significantly.

yea im all set with ritalin, ive ripped it a few times and its BS gives you evergy for awhile then you just feel like total shit and just want to sleep but most of the time your still awake from the shit so you cant even do that, its shit, dont bother. However, ive never taken it orally, do you get the same affects?
 
Ritalin is a STIMULANT.
People often call all stimulants speed simply because it's an upper.
Ritalin has a similar chemical structure to cocaine. If it makes you tired when you take it, then you may have symptoms of ADHD.
I've taken both ritalin and dexedrine, ritalin definately made me a lot more relaxed than the dexedrine. From my experience, Ritalin is better suited to someone with ADHD rather than ADD.
