I've been taking adderall for almost 2 years and I'm thinking on asking my doctor to switch me out for something else. Are there even substantial differences between ritalin and adderall?

A quick note: I only like taking IRs. I refuse to take an XR of ANYTHING. I think it's a control aspect of mine or something.. I'll take any suggestions for a more effective ADD medication or any info on this.

Some prefer one to the other. Adderall(dextro-amp 75% - L-Amp 25% ) and Ritalin (Methylphenidate)

It's the difference between personal preference. I find ritalin is much more of a relaxing warm-focus. While Adderall is more consuming, energetic.

For ADD purposes I would almost always prescribe ritalin over adderall, but for excessive daytime sleepiness(narcolepsy) I would prescribe something like adderall.

Personally I like focalin which is D-methylphenidate. The onset effects are relatively stronger. Long time script users still maintain a certain level of euphoria even with repeated use and tolerance. Take in mind I mean euphoria for concentration and comfortability purposes and not recreational (chasing the high).

^Pretty much hit the nail on the head. Some people work better with methylphenidate, and methylphenidate works better for some people, etc. Personally, methylpheniate XR is bad news, but IR methylphenidate is nice.

IR mixed amphetamine salts (Adderall) works better for me than IR methylphenidate does. Your mileage may vary.

I prefer ritalin. I get more shit done. Amphetamines provide heightened alertness and what not but often people find themselves distracted having an enjoyable yet hardly productive time. I use dexamphetamine but much prefered ritalin. It's out of my body much quicker, has less of a comedown for me, and makes me focused and constructive with my time.

Do you take these pills orally? I am interested in the effects of orally taken ritalin and would also like to know how it compares to something such as adderall. I don't want this thread to turn into a social chit chat about tons and tons of non backed up stories though.

I'll keep it open on the premise that as well as some replies based on personal experience there are also some facts that can be verified elsewhere too.

Ok, this is great information! thank you.

I'm going to ask my doctor to switch me. Adderall has almost completely lost its medicinal effect that it used to have with me. Tolerance factors are irritating the shit out me too. How is the tolerance factor with Ritalin?

I'm prescribed Lunesta (3mg) and Zoloft (I do not take this medication) with the said adderall (which i change the dose of due to tolerance).

I take adderall orally. Ive snorted it once a long time ago - horrible way to do it. And ive never taken ritalin or any medication with its that substance.

Thanks.

God I wish my doctor would give this tome, snip - no asking for advice on how to defraud doctors im 100percent sure I need it. I was on it as a kid and it did good for me. Im just always tired, and have no motivation, and never complete anything, I can't focus. I mean really. I need it. speed hella calms me down helps me get things done, helps me order my brain. But I never met a doctor that will give me a chance, once learn I was a addict.
focalin.. I thought this was none narcotic, am I wrong.

xxsicknessxx,
I went to the doc and was honest with her, I tested positive for add with my shrink so I know I needed them however he didnt write scripts. snip. Once in his office he could tell I had it bad. I got ritalin, adderall, and Focalin xr all at the same time. I personally think ritalin actually decreases my focus, go figure?

Adderall works great for me but its highly addictive, cheers!

snip, no need to quote the post right above you[/QUOTE]

Oh, forgot to answer your question. Focalin is a stimulant, its basically ritalin extended release

The OP has had the question answered, and then there were following posts which seemed to be breaking the rules, hence the edited out parts.

The matter is resolved now so the thread is being closed.

If anyone has any problems with my closing of the thread or think that it should be reopened then shoot me a PM

Mugz :)
