Risk of serotonin syndrome?

Hey guys. I'm rolling tomorrow night for the first time in three months and I'm a little worried because I've been taking 300mg 5htp/day for the last month. I haven't taken any for the last two days. From doing some research on the net it seems like a lot of people say that because of my elevated levels of serotonin I run a high(er) risk of serotonin syndrome.

Would this be a legit concern?

Thanks in advance :)

I'm not so sure that there is any evidence that 5-HTP actually increases the amount of serotonin in your brain. I'd say that's rather unlikely.

But, since you haven't been taking it for 2 days you should be fine. A lot of people preload with it, you just make sure not to take any the few days beforehand to lessen any risk. Some people have even gotten away with taking 5-HTP and MDMA together without any problems.. while other people have come close to death from it.

You should be fine though, just be cautious of course ;)

300mg of 5HTP ? I think that's a big too much, the recommended dose is like 100mg, and everyday? You shouldn't preload with 5HTP, only take it on the comedown to help regulate back the serotonin levels.

If I was you, I would quit using this much, much better to eat fresh fruits instead!

Yeh I'm definitely cutting down to 100mg just before bed from now on

Good move man, also you know there's natural food out there that gives you serotonin natural way! You could cut down to 100mg/day or even less and just eat stuff rich in serotonin like dark chocolate, cheese, turkey, chicken, bananas, blueberries etc.

^ They aint rich in serotonin hapomen, its Tryptophan.

L-Tryptophan -> 5HTP -> Serotonin -> Melatonin

I would rather eat foods that all contain tryptophan, my lunch today for example (and what ive ate i guess today) =

2 turkey sandwiches with lettuce, a banana, a bowl of rice crispies with whole fat milk, some dark chocolate and also its important to eat starches/carbs with these for the conversion to take place.

Also sunlight, ive been lucky been fair bit of sunlight about past few days or so, i also think exercise helps the conversion process too.

I just dont see why we should take some man made synthetic 5-htp when we can get tryptophan in our everyday foods :)

BEST ANSWER ON HERE BY FAR!
I don't know why people keep trying to take these chemicals etc..

Just eat healthy, stay in shape, & roll responsibly.
Everything will be fine.

I ended up taking two pills over 9 hours, they were white Mitsubishis. I just ended up with a mild headache, not serotonin syndrome. The high dosage of 5htp has definitely blunted the effects of the pills so I'll cut it down to 100mg before bed to help me sleep better and 200mg for a few days post-roll
