Anyway, yes, apparently it's a rumour. This wiki article also includes the following link as a reference:

In the comments, some people claim to have personal confirmation that the rumor is true, but until an official announcement is made, it will remain a rumor. I still see no reason for it not to be true though, unless some kiddies are making a real distasteful joke, or there's been some sort of an exaggeration. Wait and see I guess, the official news should follow shortly in any case.

And to whoever it was who tried to tell me that Wikipedia is the most reliable information source on the Internet... I urge you to read the above few posts. As far as I know the general concesus is that Wiki is not a reliable source of information at all, or rather, that it could be but you'll have to check anything it says against actual proof.

Anyway, I'd love for someone to post an article in a newspaper or something official like that. Or rather I'd love it if no one could and this could be called a rumor, rather than a fact.

Woah, this is definately the hottest thread right now here at PD. By the time I got through typing my previous short reply, a number of new posts had appeared.

I suggest this thread be closed until this information can be confirmed. No need to fire up a rumor, especially that of someone's death.

It is a sad day, but perhaps not an unexpected one. Dr. Hofmann lead a long and a full life. Let's all send him some positive energies as he crosses over to the other side.
