Texas Governor Rick Perry - who is seeking the Republican nomination for US president - has said he would consider sending American troops into Mexico to combat drug-related violence.

Mr Perry was speaking during a campaign appearance in New Hampshire.

"It may require our military in Mexico working in concert with them to kill these drug cartels and keep them off our border," he said.

Such a move would go far beyond current US involvement in Mexico's drugs war.

The suggestion is also likely to irritate Mexico's government over the sensitive issue, correspondents say.

Governor Perry gave no further details of what sort of possible military intervention he would consider.

"I don't know all the different scenarios that would be out there," he said.

"But I think it is very important for us to work with them to keep that country from failing".

No. He wants to kill some people because he doesnt want people -on his side of the imaginary line dividing Mexico and America- becoming part of the 40000+ that have died in cartel related violence.

His obviously racist and inequal views on human life. Coupled with a good ol' fashioned conservative war-hungry mindset, is imo, the most disturbing thing about this Mr. Perry.

And when you really think about it, how is sending American troops into cartel controlled mexico going to STOP violence.

Ugh, typical bush-era bullshit; "Lets send in the american people to fight an enemy, to stop said enemy from hurting the american people." Right, send your folks to war to protect them.

What? Unfuckingbelievable. There is no way this is real? I cant see how anyone in their riight state of mind would consider doing this! Especially a leader (maybe) of our country who is suppose to have our best interests? What, does he think "troops" are just disposable things that we can send into mexico to kill the cartels. These are fucking human beings with people that love them.

Send are troops in to kill the cartels. What a fucking joke. Fuck rick perry honestly. I hope anyone who sees this article or actually heard what the fucker said instantly switches their previous opinion of him and def change their votes.

As horrible as Obama has been just remember it can get A LOT worse. And I am afraid there is nobody else with a chance in hell of getting elected except maybe Ron Paul who would be better (and Paul may be for decriminalization, but he'd strip welfare programs too...).

So when you vote next year, even if you are not happy with Obama's lack of testicular fortitude remember the alternative and hold your nose, please. Or we'll indeed go to war with Mexico, and liberties will be eroded at breakneck pace.
 
i was raised a conservative but have recently decided both parties suck and politicians in general are just liars but if this is the best the republicans can do then obama is clearly going to have four more years of doing jack shit
 
He says "kill the cartels" as if each cartel is one person that needs to be killed and once the military gets that guy then the cartels will end and everyone will decide that drugs aren't worth selling.

Mexico already tried killing and imprisoning the big bosses (still haven't got El Chapo though). What happens is that when the person in charge goes away, the people below him commence huge bloody wars over turf and control of the cartel. This violence has largely been triggered by destabilizing cartel leadership.

I live in Austin Texas and can say from experience that this dude's crazy. Perry is just ridiculous in every sense of the word, anyone who votes for him is either incredibly ignorant or just a complete asshole, or both as is often the case.

seriously now? Can Obama not just order some drone strikes to nuke whoever is casing trouble, seeing as they have no qualms doing it to US citizens in Iraq/Afghanistan/Pakistan?

The news from the US is ridiculous these days.
